Once the NVC receives your case from USCIS, how long should it take them to issue you a case number?

Have been reading posts here lately that say allow about 3 weeks / then call and ask if there is a case number

 

Immigrant visa issuances during fiscal year 2017 will be limited by the terms of INA 201 to no more than 226,000 in the family-sponsored preferences and 140,000 in the employment-based preferences. (Visas for "Immediate Relatives" - i.e., spouses, unmarried children under the age of 21 years, and parents of U.S. citizens - are not subject to numerical limitation, however.) It should by no means be assumed that once an applicant is registered, the case is then continually included in the waiting list totals unless and until a visa is issued. The consular procedures mandate a regular culling of visa cases to remove from the count those unlikely to see further action, so that totals are not unreasonably inflated.

just to give you an idea of the paperwork they deal with

this does not include the cases that they feel will go no further

immigration has 19000 employees including border, embassies and POE officers at internaitonal airports

so, now you wait (patince is needed )

then when they finally send the case number,   you hurry to do all they need

then wait again for them to process

it is hurry up and wait 

hard and heartbreaking
