Good day!!! I arrived in the US just this october 2017 and I want to ask for advise... I want to change my surname ( BTW I'm male, single, under IR2 thru CSPA) 2 weeks after I arrived in the states. Is that possible?? I haven't paid yet my Immigrant fee. I want (if possible) that my green card will reflect my PREFFERED Surname when they mail it to me for the first time... Thanks for the advice...

You should probably do it before applying for any kind of visa. you can still do it but it will be longer process

i would say if the all application for green were under your name, i would change it after you pay the immigrant fee. than change your name.

You can’t get a green card in a new name until you legally change your name, by marriage or court order. Now the question is can you change the name on your application after your interview and after you have entered the US, I honestly don’t know. From what I understand the name on the green card will match the name on the IR2 visa.

Granted but OP already has the visa and entered the US on it.

That's what I keep saying to my mom. She wants me to have my name change now and disregard paying immigrant fee now that I've entered the US. A court order is needed for my name change and it would take months or possible a year to have my green card in my preferred name. I only have my passport stamped IR55 valid for a year. My option is get the green card under my current surname and then once I have my green card on my current name, that's the time I will petition for name change in the court.
