Hi I have a simple question. I am a US naturalized citizen from Poland and I am wanting to send a immigration visa for my wife. Since I am finishing college and I do not have a full time job my dad, who is a permanent legal resident, has agreed to be her sponsor.

Here is my question. Can I help my dad fill out the sponsor form since he does not understand English 100%. We have already filled out the whole form. Is it okay for us to mail it off with the rest of the required documents?

Thank you everyone!

Sure you can fill out the forms for him no problem. But remember you are the sponsor always, he is the joint sponsor. Yes it's best to send the whole package together. Your financials and his You know you both fill out your own I-864.

Is your case for your wife already at the embassy?

Thank you so much for the response and thank you for telling me that I need to fill out the i-864 as well.

No, the case is not at the embassy. I have all the paperwork filled out, I will be mailing it and starting this process early next week or later this week.

So am I the "interpreter" in this case? Or do I just check that yes, I am fluent in English on my father's sponsor form.

Yes, but if you haven't filed the I-130 petition yet, it is far too soon to deal with the Affidavit of Support.  Deal with that AFTER the I-130 is approved and at the National Visa Center, in Spring or Summer of next year.

So what should I mail out right now? Just the i-130 and i-130A?

The answer depends on your circumstances.  Become an a-student of the I-130 instructions.  Doing so will be critical to your ultimate success.  You'll be sending both "forms" and supporting documentation.  It's the supporting documents that depend on your circumstances.

Okay thank you for that.  What do you mean the supporting documents depend on my circumstances?

Spend an hour on those I-130 instructions and you'll know.

For example, if it's your first marriage, you won't be including any divorce decrees, but if it's your 4th marriage, you'll be including three divorce decrees.
