So, I did read through the name-change thread, but I did not see our situation. When we filled out hubby’s N-400, he wanted to add a middle name. Easy-least, right? Not so much, as it turns out. Somehow we couldn’t read that day so We put his new name as “middle, last, first” vs “first, middle, last”. We were in a bad car accident in January and completely forgot about this. He was caught off-guard by the IO yesterday during his interview (recommended for approval) when she asked about the name change, and twice as much, since the names were not where they should be. She was pressing him to go through with the error “since that’s what was filled out”.... 

 

If I understand the options correctly, they would be:

 

1) set-up infopass to hopefully correct it (we’re not too concerned about any delay)

 

2) just go with the wrong name

 

3) before changing other documents after his oath, go through the court (which would motivate myself to do one to drop my maiden name from the hyphen), and then change documents and apply for passport (again, not too concerned about time, nor the extra money, but what a pain)

 

do do any of you have further information or consequences of any of these options?

don't go with the new one

not a fix that is easy

you do need that info pass to fix

make sure any letters you write about this,  you keep a copy and sent retrun receipt

I would try my best to get the name change request corrected before it's official.

Or maybe even get the (incorrect) name change cancelled if it is too late to alter it... then go to court to add the middle name.

We went to the infopass to make sure hubby’s name change is correct this past Wednesday. His file was with the person getting ready to schedule his oath, so the appointment was just in the nick of time. The IO we spoke with said hubby should be getting the appointment letter next week, and that they are currently scheduling for January Oaths and that we should have come sooner (but was happy we made it just in time). Since this year started with a car accident in January and has been beyond stressful, I’m hoping starting next year with my hubby’s Oath Ceremony, it will be an amazing year in 2018!
