I'll try to keep this as short as possible so you can understand how I got to this place:

I got my resident alien card when I was a child- the card had no expiration date on it (they used to do this).

I never had any issues with the card, so I hadn't bothered to get it renewed- four years ago I renewed my Texas driver's license with it with no problems.

Three years ago I moved to NY.

NY refused to provide me a driver's license OR state ID. They said that my resident alien card was to old and because it showed both my mother and father's last name, and all my other documents (paystubs, mail, etc) showed only my father's last name, they woudn't accept it even if it was a recent photo.

Because of this I haven't been able to get an updated driver's license.

To avoid getting tickets, my wife has been driving me everywhere. She's driving me to the interview this wednesday.

I have my IRS forms, paystubs, mail, that all shows my current address for the last three years. Will this be enough?

I'm not too familiar with your situation. Do you have a SSN? If not, it looks like you are able to get one. Once you have a SSN, you would just need to submit additional proof of your date of birth, such as a birth certificate, in order to get your license.

if you are applying in NY but your license is a TX one, you may not qualify for residence in the state in which you applied. You may want to try and obtain a Photo ID with your current address. And also bring other proof of residence. But most likely they may deny your case moving forward due to lack of residence - in which case you would lose the $725 and would need the fee to renew your GC.
