Citizenship interview Tax transcripts or returns

Hello guys,

 

My interview is coming soon; I am married to a USC. I have been looking for my tax return for the last 3 years and couldn't find 2015 and 2014. I have only 2016. However, I got all Tax transcripts for the last three years. We have been filing jointly since we got married 6 years ago.  Are transcripts enough? I also sent transcripts with my N-400 application.

Don’t despair. Your IRS tax transcripts are not only more than sufficient, but are also highly recommended than actual tax returns. You’re in good hands. Good luck!

Great link, but you can't get them online right away. you have to send the form and it takes a few days, and I don't have that. I should've done that earlier. Anyhow I think I am gonna just take what I have.

Actually you can.

You register and if successful then you can view/download/print your transcript right away.

 

If not successful in registering then that is when you have to request one by mail.

 

I am registered with them and get my transcripts instantly.....on many occasions.

You are right I went back and I was able to register. However, I am able to see 4 things: Return transcripts which I already have, record account transcripts, account transcripts, and wage and income transcripts.  I am looking for the actual tax returns if you know what I mean, because it's getting a little confusing here. Could you get them online as well? thanks again.

No, you cannot get an actual/exact tax return copy online.

 

You have to request that by filling out form 4506 and that will take days (maybe even weeks) and that return is usually certified by the IRS to show that it is authentic. Also you have to pay a fee (transcript is free). 

The transcript is what is most commonly requested by government agencies and that is what most people use.

 

People get the actual return from the way they previously did it - their accountant or filling company/software.  But the transcript is the way to go when dealing with the government.

By far I have Return transcripts for the last 4 years now, and I just printed out record account transcripts for the last 4 years. I hope that's sufficient.
