I just wanted to get feedback if following the latest instructions exactly concerning empty/blank fields is still advised.

Form I-129F Instructions 04/10/17 state:

"Answer all questions fully and accurately. If a question does not apply to you (for example, if you have never been married and the question asks “Provide the name of your current spouse”), type or print “N/A,” unless otherwise directed. If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless otherwise directed. "

Thus, I've put an "N/A" into absolutely every single blank field, except for Part 1.1 (A-number) ,Part 1.2 (USCIS number), Part 2.2 (A-number), Part 2.3(SS#) which I put NONE into.
So for example, my fiancee has no middle name so Part 2.1.c middle name is "N/A".  I have no postal code or province so part 1.8.g/h.  has "N/A". Etc,..

Is this the best way to do it ?

Note that the example http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-I-129F.pdf would appear to be out of date with the latest instructions since its full of empty fields.

Thank you.

Mind the “unless otherwise directed” part. The form is doing good enough job of guiding you through the process. With few exceptions, you can pretty much accurately fill out the form, following directions on the form itself.

Whichever way you do it, do not stress out too much. The content takes precedence over exact presentation.

We agonized over the same thing.  I tried to follow the "unless otherwise indicated," as well, and hoped whoever was reading it wouldn't be so nitpicky.  It can't be that hard (hopefully) 🙄.

The previous edition form, yes, you can freely leave the boxes blank if they simply don't apply to you. I did that when we filed using the old form.

With all the updated USCIS forms, they now bear the instructions of completing it fully and accurately.

I cannot comment if people who are using the current edition form and leaving the boxes blank got through just fine without RFE. But, personally, I'd lean towards filling the boxes with N/A or None, to save myself from misery and avoid the possibility of RFE just because I ended up with a strict adjudicator (we never know).

Just know that some boxes will be locked depending on the question before so there's nothing you can do about that and in such instance, you don't exactly need to complete those boxes either.

Boxes for numerical values generally do not allow alphabets so you can print the final form and write with a black pen.

For stuff like spouse, children, interpreter and preparer, if these don't apply, simply enter N/A or None in the name boxes and you can leave the subsequent boxes (usually address) tied to it blank.

Good luck to all :)
