Documents for getting I-551 stamp

I had applied for ROC in January 2017 but obviously have not heard back anything till now. Now I am changing jobs and my new employer needs proof of my legal status. As far as I understand I need to get a I-551 stamp for my I-9 paperwork. I have a Infopass appointment scheduled for the same. 

 

I was trying search to find what documents do I need for this appointment but did not find a thread explicitly stating these. Can anybody here share their experience from getting I-551 stamp?

 

I know that i need 

 

1. Passport with validity

2. Copy of expired Green card

3. Notice for biometric appointment

4. Extension letter from USCIS regarding pending ROC

5. Drivers license showing my current address.

 

Do I need anything else?

You dont need i-551 stamp, a valid state ID and SS number would be enough for you to show to your new employer as a proof of legal status.

My DHS card has written over it "Valid only with DHS work authorization". Unfortunately I forgot to get that removed when I received my 2 year GOC.

the extension letter you got is proof of legal status. they will not stamp your passport until there is only a month left until that letter expires.

You don't need state ID/drivers license.

Just passport, expired card, extension letter and biometrics letter.

 

They may or may not retain your expired card at the appointment.

 

When you have your stamp, get to the SS office ASAP, get a replacement card without the annotation on it, and then provide your drivers license with your new SS card to fulfill your I-9 requirements.

 

 

 

Are you SURE that you need it in order to get the annotation removed from your SS card?

you dont have to show SS card just the ss number, they can verify using ss number that you're legal to work here.

Not true, and despite being oft-quoted on here, there is no 'only 30 days before expiry' rule.

 

If you have a legitimate reason, they will do it when needed.

does he need to show the job contract to show the legitimate reason?

I have the Offer Letter from the new employer.

Also my GC is already expired, can I still get my SSN updated ?

You can update your SSN number and request to removed the "Valid only with DHS work authorization" once you got the i-551 stamp on your passport.

then what is the legitimate reason? the extension letter is a valid form of work authorization. having to educate the hr department would not be one.

As far as I understand extension letter is not a valid form of work authorization for employers to accept.

They should but not all HR personnel understands that specially for those who dont have knowledge about immigration process.

This page does not mention extension letter as an acceptable document.

then you educate them by bring printouts from .gov sites which prove you have the required documents.
