so my friend is going thought the same process as me, but his case is a little different, heres why: He is also engaged, but heres how it happened: His relatives in England referred him to a girl there, (their culture is different), he went there , they met, talked or whatever, liked each other, so he proposed for her to her parents, they consulted her, she accepted, so they accepted, and they got engaged. However, they dont have any proof of an ongoing relationship, but he does have the proof of him flying to the UK. Is that enough proof to show that they met or whatever. no phone bills, no emails, not photos of them together

Also, the girl doest have too many ties in the UK: not working, finished school, lives with parents. so if she wanted to visit him, would a return plane ticket, and letters from her family suffice to show her ties to UK?

thanks

Does UK not belong to the countries under VWP, which means she does not need a visa to visit the States?

Why she need the ties in the UK? Are you talking about a tourist Visa? I am a little confused because for filing a K1 she does not need to show her ties as far as I remember.

well obviously i am no expert at all. but i do appreciate this VJ site so much, so i am going to try to help you offering the knowledge or lack there of i do have.

it sounds to me like that is going to be a huge problem!! if there is no evience i can not see how this would be accepted by the USCIS, I mean, then only thing I can see is writing and explaining the situation really well. But I still cannot see how that will suffice. I guess I hope someone with more knowledge of experience answers you.

Just having plane tickets to England. Lots of people go to England all the time for many different reasons. I think you need a really really good excuse or some kind of evidence.

If they are not communicating now, before he files, when do they plan to start? It is generally a good idea to include pictures of the couple together along with proof of travel to the right place during the time they claim to have met in person. I don't know that pictures are an absolute requirement but without them, he would be wise to use as much proof as possible. An ongoing relationship requires communication that can be proved as well. Now is the time to start building those records.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Their culture is different? Which culture? The English culture? I'm guessing you mean some other, perhaps immigrants-to-England culture. Because otherwise, I have no idea what you mean. I'm marrying a Brit and I have NO CLUE what you're talking about with this different culture stuff.

As to your questions: proof of ongoing relationship isn't required at this point. For the I-129F, you must prove you met in person in the last 2 years and prove that you intend to marry (that's done with the letters of intent).

For the interview, he'll/you'll need to show an ongoing relationship. So your friend should start communicating and at least trying to either live up to American cultural standards of relationships or start documenting the cultural reasons why it wouldn't be done and expect to have one helluva time explaining things at the interview.

As for visiting, if there's no K1 in process, and if the girl in question is eligible to travel under the visa waiver program, there should be no fear of getting stopped at the border and asked for ties to the home country. That's the point of VWP. of course, she always COULD be asked, so some preparation is good. BUt usually the return plane ticket is what is needed.

I think there's A LOT of detail here that we don't know, however.
