Hi i've been waiting on aos through marriage petition since filing in october of last year. My wife and I got married in a small affair in city hall the July before. It was always our dream to get married overseas in a bigger wedding closer to where we both have substantial family. This wedding has been planned for over a year now. All deposits paid, invites out etc. Alas our worst nightmare came through and we received word today that the date of the interview has been scheduled and it clashes directly with the wedding which is 3000 miles away. My lawyer told me I should cancel the wedding. It's just not logistically possible over a 100 people have booked flights, accommodation and time off work. Not to mention the fact that my wife and I have been together for 6 years and have been dreaming about this day since.

Has anyone much experience with rescheduling? Will it be majorly frowned upon? Will travelling abroad for a 2nd wedding be thought of as presumptuous?

PS I have I-131 for travelling abroad and have yet to use it.

Why did you set a date when you didn't know when the AOS would be approved?

Unfortunately I know of couples who have had to cancel all wedding plans due to guessing USCIS processing times. :(

Sorry to hear this :(

You can try and see if they will reschedule your interview.... That could be possible.

Yes it was risky. We got a bit excited. But thought what are the odds it would fall on the exact same date,

I do think I know of a couple that had decided to move and their move fell right around their AOS interview date.  They were able to reschedule it for a later time at the USCIS office closer to their new location.

Perhaps you can reschedule due to previous travel arrangements?

You could make an infopass and bring your proof of the wedding (financial expenses etc) and ask for a re scheduled time.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have heard of cases where the couple thought all is well for a re scheduled date
and left the country and discovered that the AOS was deemed abandoned due to a no show because the re scheduling fell through

the bureaucratic cracks.
Get whatever you can get in writing if they re schedule you so you can proof you did indeed re schedule and file a motion to re open

if they deny you.

It is possible to reschedule, make an infopass appointment like somebody said but make sure you get the cancellation notice. When I had to reschedule due to moving the whole process was a pain in the back side due to miscommunication on their end.

Best of luck to you. Hope your wedding can take place!

Rescheduling AOS interview is a risky proposition, mainly due to miscommunication btw the local field office and NBC. The NBC fixes interview date and pass the message generated automatically to the local field office which just go ahead and expect you to be there. I am still a victim of failed communication, I didn't get an interview notice and the local field office claimed a misinterview for me. I later found out, after infopass was told my case was sent back to the shelf and they are waiting for it to be rescheduled.

My advice is make sure you get an approved reschedule interview letter both from the local field office and the USCIS CSR.

Good luck with your wedding...

If you're still on VisaJourney, could you tell me if you were able to reschedule the interview?

My husband and I are potentially finding ourselves in the same position. AOS interviews in our Seattle office were completely halted for 7 months and we decided we couldn't put our lives on hold forever and scheduled our second wedding ceremony in Mexico. We're now at 16 months from our file date and interviews are being scheduled in the Seattle office again. Based on the rate they're being scheduled, we'll either get the interview right before we go or while we're in Mexico.

I can't believe our luck... 😓
