'Dil To Pagal Hai' was huge when I was in India, many years ago. Had a catchy theme song, I recall.

"It's not the years; it's the mileage." Indiana Jones

The only Hindi films that I have enjoyed have been these - (am not gonna go into a tirade about Bollywood) - these films have appealed to me for different reasons... Amar Prem has beautiful music... Chupke Chupke is hysterically funny; Khamoshi, Goduli and Ankur are films that have not been popular with mainstream cinema audiences... but I found them interesting. Anand was a very touching film. All these films were made in the 70s.

Goduli

Ankur

Chupke Chupke

Anand

Amar Prem

Khamoshi

In addition to these... I have enjoyed some ancient films (due entirely to the music) so I shall add:

All films with KL Saigal

Anarkali

Music is something that sustains me - and the old Hindi films (pre-partition) had incredibly beautiful music. I don't like most of the post-partition music due to the predominance of shrieky mangeshkar's voice; though I have to admit in Anarkali she sang beautifully

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

I also didn't know she was in it before watching it. but when me and Suj were watching it...I saw Rory and I yelled "RORY!!???" and I startled Sujeet. I just wasn't expecting her in the movie at all. That made me like it even more that our own Rory was in it haha.

Another tip is that only certain actors are in so many movies, that when watching...you may think "hey, this same couple was in the last movie".

In 2 of the movies I told you about, the same couple is in both even though the movies were made years apart....like how Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have been in movies together. Except it seems so many movies in Bollywood feature the same 2 or 3 actors...that part can be a little annoying. :)

The guy in nijusjaanu's avatar is one of the most famous actors and is in 2 of the movies I told you about.

If you want to watch a Bollywood-style film in English, 'The Guru' is extremely funny and it pays homage to Bollywood complete with singing-and-dancing-in-the-streets.

I started watching Bride and Prejudice on tv and DH came along and said 'what IS this #######?' and switched the channel... I'll have to keep an eye out for it showing up on Encore or more likely Sundance when he's not home to object :)
