Who will win the Pacquiao-Solis fight?

For me, I determine that Manny Pacquiao will win because he is my National Boxer idol as a Filipina :star: .

MANNY Pacquiao should have no problems disposing of undefeated, but unknown Jorge Solis in what may well be aptly titled “Blaze of Glory” which his diehard supporters hope will catapult him to victory over incumbent Rep. Darlene Antonino Custodio, whose credentials appear far more formidable than those of the gangling Mexican.

In a fight card, which revives memories of Pacquiao’s spectacular demolition of legendary Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera in November 2003, it’s more quantity than real quality served up by Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, whose smartness in hyping Solis and selling the fight card has to be commended.

Flyweight champion Jorge Arce, who battles junior bantamweight champion Cristian Mijares, may well steal the thunder from the Pacquiao-Solis main event.

Light flyweight Brian Viloria’s attempt to regain the title he claims he deserves after two defeats to Omar Niño Romero may be of passing interest to fight fans after the Fil-Hawaiian failed to live up to the excitement he generated following a sensational first-round KO of Eric Ortiz to win the crown in 2005. Romero was stripped of the crown after testing positive for a banned substance.

Arce himself said he was being generous in predicting that Pacquiao would knock out Solis in the middle rounds and even posed the question: “Who is Solis?”

Well, he is the older brother of International Boxing Federation light flyweight champion Ulises “Archie” Solis.

Solis’ only quality opponent was current World Boxing Council no. 2 Humberto Soto, an Arum protégé, who is being built up to fight Pacquiao since getting any of the top draw fighters under Golden Boy Promotions looks remote in the wake of a furious legal battle over the promotional rights to the Pacman.

Solis’ fight with Soto was declared a no-contest after a nasty cut was suffered by Soto.

But up to that point, Solis was taking a beating. Leading to the fight against Pacquiao, the devastating puncher from General Santos City, Solis has met mediocre opponents at best, although Arum and Solis’ promoter Fernando Beltran have tried hard to picture the Mexican, a featherweight, as a genuine threat, who could, as his manager put it, “shock the world.”

For sure, Pacquiao cannot and will not let that happen because if he loses, he can surely kiss his political aspirations goodbye—at least for the elections this May.

The “Blaze of Glory” whose free TV, cable, pay-per-view and other ancillary rights cost Solar Sports P60 million, will be telecast over GMA-7 which, mindful of the ratings and sponsorship revenues reaped by bitter rivals ABS-CBN in earlier Pacquiao fights, decided to take the plunge even though a Pacquiao-Solis fight cannot be even remotely compared to Pacquiao’s classic wars with Erik “El Terrible” Morales.

After having watched some tapes of Solis’ fights, it’s obvious that he doesn’t have the kind of power and the vicious combinations to hurt let alone harm Pacquiao. He has a tendency to leave himself open and combined with his poor footwork, Solis is bound to get nailed whenever Pacquiao thinks he has entertained the fans enough.

His trainer, conditioning expert Justin Fortune who pitched in for celebrated, two-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach, predicts the fight will not go beyond six rounds.

This is the same view by Roach, who will be in Pacquiao’s corner to the possible discomfort of Arum.

Even former World Boxing Council super flyweight champion Gerry Peñalosa, who viewed tapes of Solis’ fights, said the Mexican was weak and that the Pacman would demolish him.

Arum, unable to get a big-name fighter to take on Pacquiao, couldn’t resist the temptation to take a dig at his arch rival Oscar de la Hoya, who has the stars he needs by saying his rival tried to stop the fight. He then made the utterly false claim—as reported by Fight News—that De la Hoya had tried to stop the airing of the fight in the Philippines, and the people threatened to riot, which resulted in the telecast pushing through.

Veteran boxing man Hermie Rivera will team up with Chino Trinidad to handle the coverage over GMA-7.

Rivera would have come full circle from the pundit, who gave Pacquiao no chance whatsoever in beating Barrera and someone who now believes, despite the hype, that Solis has no chance beating Pacquiao.

This time at least, Filipino boxing fans will be hoping that Rivera is right.

The fight was awesome. I think after the head butt pacman knew he needed to end the fight fast. I thought solis was going bye bye in the 6th but the 8th was great. We saw the fight at the tampa fhilfest, the place closed at 11 but they kept it open to watch the fight. About 200 of us stayed till it was over. The crowd sure boo,ed over the star spangled banner, wow, talk about singing out of tune.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I heard that there was a little trouble between Pacman's fans(Filipinos) and Solis' fans(Mexicans) after the winning fight.
