My fiancé is Brazilian. I believe that her Divorce Decree and Birth Certificate are required to be translated to English? Are there any others? Can we do this ourselves or does it have to be something official? Does the initial submission of the I-129f need this or comes later?

Thank you!

My Husband is Brazilian and we went through the entire K-1 process a little less than a year ago. I don't remember sending his birth certificate when I sent his K-1 Petition off. However, the I-485 does required a translated birth certificate. I'm not sure about the divorce decree, but if you have to get that translated, it wouldn't hurt to get the birth certificate translated for future use. Anyways, if my memory serves me correct I remember sending my birth certificate (U.S. citizen) with the K-1 packet. Good Luck!

We just received an RFE because we didn't have the divorce decree translated with the I-129F packet.  The translation must be certified.  Birth Certificate and Divorce Decree need to be translated.

I was under the impression that only the US citizen was required to show a birth certificate for the I-129f? Is this incorrect? Thanks

Yes that is correct, for I-129f only US petitioner needs to send in birth certificate.

It is best to have the documents translated and notarized by a professional.

Thank you, I appreciate the clarification.

You are correct only the petitioner needs a birth certificate. Sorry about the confusion.
