It's not a waste of anyone's time. And any elected official who treats it as such should be tossed in the next election.

Per the USCIS's own publications, average processing time is 2.9 months. If you're around or past that, then give someone a call.

Yes, but that is an average across all Service Centers...

Write the letter if you want, OP, but realize that there are a heck of a lot of people who have waited longer. Exceptions to the rule cannot be counted as the rule.

I in no way want to discourage anyone from trying. I would love to hear someone who was able to get the attention of a Senator's office at the 2.9 month point. The standard response is typically that they will not pick up your torch until you are past the reported USCIS processing dates (which we all know currently rides at 6 mos.).

I contacted my congresswoman's office about a month ago to raise my concerns over the disparate treatment of VSC vs CSC files. I wanted to know if the Congresswoman was aware that her constituents weren't being afforded the same treatment as some of her colleagues'.

Her staffer told me that she was aware of the different processing times and they were what they were and there was no plans to change anything.

A heartwarming response indeed - but not necessarily one I put a lot of stock in.

I told her I wanted her to do something, so she had me fax her information. I did so.

I've heard nothing back yet. One follow up phone call yielded a "I still don't know" response.

But I'm figuring one of two things happens:

Knowing that the processing time is frequently far less than the reported 6 month times, when my NOA2 comes in around the 90 day average, I'll get a "give me credit for helping you out" form letter of self-praise from her office. VJers and I will know, of course, that she will have had zilch to do about it.

If we get to 100 days and nothing has happened, I will call and request more information and ask what actually has been done if anything. Depending on the response, I'll either wait longer, or rain holy hell down via the powerful political weapon of negative PR in the best way I can. Might not be effective. But at least I'll be doing something besides either whinging about the long delays or twiddling my thumbs like a good little go-along-er.

We'll see.

But I will always, 100% of the time, recommend anyone contact his/her representative to let the office know what you're going through. I don't care if it's day 30 or day 130. As far as I am concerned, once you meet up with the average VSC processing time, go for it.

Correct - you have the right to contact them. But 99% of the time they will take you they cannot do anything until you have passed the posted 6 month mark. Each case takes a different amount of time. Some people are lucky and fly through the process for no obvious reason. Others get stuck in security checks. Since elected officials have much bigger immigration concerns these days, you'll be hard pressed to find someone who will treat you differently than the rules dictate (6 months). A few years ago this process took around 9 months average. So things actually HAVE changed for the better. Again, patience and perspective.

I really do tip my hat off to you. Most people don't understand that this is why we elect these people. To give us help with certain issues. On my Senators web site it is in black and white they have a representative who deals with INS issues. So if I dont tell them how will they know. And I say again it is not just for me it is also for the ones who have waited longer than I have and the ones who are after me. It does not cost me a penny to report this problem even if nothing comes out of it. Once again thanks a lot for telling it like it truly is.
