For the AOS (adjustment of status) interview, the affidavit of support is indeed necessary.

Ignore the previous answer, it is not relevant to your case.

The AOS submitted to NVC should travel with your papers to the embassy.  However, it is recommended you bring a copy as they are often lost.

Yes it is a family based visa, because a spouse is family.

You were given the answer to have a copy of the Affidavit of Support at your interview but you are saying that you "think" you need it.....walk with a copy as backup. You are required to have ALL originals of the copies of documents you submitted to the NVC for them to determine validity of your case to grant you an interview with your country's embassy. Alternatively, you must have a COPY of the Affidavit of Support since you submitted the original signed document to the NVC.

Also, you were sent a checklist by the NVC of the items needed at the time of your interview. Please follow their guidelines and walk with everything plus the kitchen sink as you do not want to be placed in Administrative Processing for delayed/missing documents required at the time of your interview.
