“I’m shocked, shocked to find that Ultra Nationalist Foreign Governments have paid henchmen here!” (The croupier hands him his money.) “…Your winnings, sir.” “Oh, thank you very much!”

Attorneys for Michael Flynn, President Trump’s former national security adviser, informed the incoming White House legal counsel during the transition that Flynn might need to register with the government as a foreign agent — a phone call that raised no alarms within Trump’s team, despite the unusual circumstance of having a top national security post filled by someone whose work may have benefited a foreign government.

The firm Flynn headed, Flynn Intel Group, was hired last year when Flynn was an adviser to the Trump campaign by the Netherlands-based firm Inovo BV, which is owned by Turkish businessman Ekim Alptekin. Alptekin has close ties to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Although the contract ended after the election, new details about the work Flynn did for Inovo resurrect the controversy over his short tenure as Trump’s top national security aide.

The national security adviser is supposed to be an honest broker within the executive branch, pulling together military and diplomatic options for the president so he can decide what policy to pursue. But Flynn’s work potentially benefiting Turkey meant he was representing the interests of a country other than the United States at the same time he was advising Trump on foreign policy during the election.

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn was paid nearly $34,000 to speak at a 2015 gala in Moscow honoring the Russian propaganda outlet RT, according to documents released Thursday by congressional investigators.

Flynn has previously acknowledged being paid to speak at the 2015 event but has not disclosed the amount. He resigned last month after just 24 days as President Donald Trump’s national security adviser after it became clear that he misled officials about the nature of his conversations with Russia’s ambassador.

Documents released Thursday by Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, show RT paid $45,000 for Flynn to appear at the gala, of which nearly $34,000 went to Flynn and the remainder went to his speaker’s bureau, Leading Authorities. The documents also show Flynn got two payments of $11,250 from a Russian cargo airline company and a Russia-based cybersecurity firm.

Former CIA Director James Woolsey said that he attended a secret meeting in September with ousted Trump national security adviser Adm. Mike Flynn to plan a covert operation to “whisk away” a fugitive cleric and hand him over to Turkey’s authoritarian government.

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Woolsey and other people present at the meeting confirmed that Flynn was coordinating with officials from the cabinet of right-wing Turkish Pres. Recep Tayyip Erdogan in anticipation of extraditing Fethullah Gulen back to Turkey should Trump win the presidency.

The “dead of night” operation was intended to circumvent normal U.S. extradition laws, Woolsey said. The meeting took place on Sep. 19, and Woolsey said he arrived late only to be startled and alarmed that the discussion was treading into potentially illegal territory.

The plan, according to Woolsey, was “a covert step in the dead of night to whisk this guy away.” Gulen is wanted in Turkey for allegedly aiding last summer’s failed military coup against the Erdogan regime.

Yes and the cleric was on the extradition table way before the coup
