Hello Folks,

Good day to you all. I had written last time that my fiance in Cameroon was denied a k-1 visa because he overstayed his visit to the United States 5 years ago. We realised this wasn't the case. There had been a mix up. While he thought he was being interviewed  for a k-1 visa on January  19th 2017, he was actually being interviewed  for a B1 or b2 visa because he chose b1 or b2 when he was applying for the visa, due the the fact that the link given to him hybrid the embassy didn't have the option to choose the visa category  k-1, so he had chosen b1 or b2.

He kept talking about his fiance during the interview and trying to show his interviewer prove of our relationship  but for some strange  reason, the lady didn't tell him there was some confusion.

Nevertheless, we finally realized what had happened. He went on the website again and filled another ds-160. The status was updated on the 30th of January and showed "READY." Then it said " Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the US consular Section.  If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the appointed date and time. Please, wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment.  Additional information about how immigrant  visa interview  appointments are scheduled  can be found at http//nvc.state.gov. state.gov/interviews

The problem is, this link does not tell you how to get your appointment  for the visa interview. We have sent emails but no reply. We don't know how to go about it. Call don't go through either and our file expires on February  16th.

I have talked to someone at the nvc and this is who actually told me my fiance was interviewed for a non immigrant  visa on the 19th when he was supposed to have been interviewed for an immigrant visa that the k-1 visa actually is.

Has anyone in this forum ever gone through this? Especially in Cameroon.  How are k-1 visa interview appointments made? Please, help. I am so confused right now. Thanks for your input.

The K1 visa is technically a non-immigrant visa, that is why you need to AOS after marriage.

Yes. Technically it is a non immigrant visa, but when you follow the link the embassy sends you to fill in the ds-160, you are able to fill it but that's  where it ends. You don't  find k-1 visa among the visa categories to choose from. This led us to choose b1 which led my fiance to be interviewed  for a totally different visa on January 19. Now, we hear k-1 visa appointments are not scheduled online by the Beneficiary or petitioner and that the ds-160 is the farthest we can go. Our status says my fiance is ready for his interview to be scheduled.  The problem is that our application will expire on February  16 and we don't know how to get that interview  scheduled. We can't get the embassy by phone. They don't  answer emails.
