I've read a lot of other posts about what the beneficiary should wear at the interview and my partner will definitely dress accordingly. But I don't possess formal clothes as I'm just abroad as a student. I was just going to wear shorts and a textless t-shirt. I'm not even required to be at the interview to begin with so I don't think it should be an issue, should it? By the way this is for the HCMC consulate in Vietnam.

Thanks

I don't believe that there is a dress code for either person, as long as one dresses respectfully (I would suggest long pants). However, it would look rather strange if there's a great mismatch in style between the beneficiary and petitioner.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

I believe you should dress as business like or at least business casual.  Dress to impress, and dress to show respect towards the officer.  With a good impression, they feel that you've respected them enough to dress nicely and that you are sincere about this relationship.

Imagine what you would wear for a job interview?  But this is by far a lot more important than a job interview.  This is considered as your future and the person who's going to give you that pass will perceive who you are based on the way that you dress.  He doesn't know you, he doesn't know how you are as a person, so the first impression here is very important.

My advise is to dress nicely and respectfully to show the importance of this event.
