Passport photos

Hi everyone, I know in the I-485 and I-765 forms it says that the applicant should lightly print their name and A# on the back of the passport photos with a pencil, but I'm finding it really hard to print on the picture paper with just a pencil. Can you just hand in the photos with the rest of the application without printing your name? Has anyone else done this without a problem? Any tips. Thx

My advise is to use a pencil with a softer lead. As far as I know writing your name and A# (if applicable) on the back of photos is not optional.

When u say softer lead, do u mean a pencil that is not #2. What type of pencil do u mean.

I forget what the US system is for pencils, a #2 pencil is a HB right? Then you need something softer than a #2, yes. Someone more familiar with pencils hopefully will answer your question!

We used a Sharpie for the exact reason OP mentioned,

I used a pencil and printed the names VERY lightly. It's hard to use a pencil, but as long as you can produce something close to legible, it should be okay

We used regular ink pen...

Also went thru without problems...

I think that as long you dont mark too hard on the pictures (as to actually damage it) it shouldnt matter...

on I-485, I used a regular black ink pen....and went through with no problems as well.
