Can My Wife Enter Mexico?

Not sure where is the best place to post this, but my question is: can my wife enter Mexico with a US green card? She is a Colombian citizen and tells me that Colombians need a visa to enter Mexico. Can anyone tell me if US residency changes that requirement or would we still need to apply for a visa?

Yes it does.....

MEXICO (MX)

Passport required.

Visa not required for a touristic stay of max. 180 days,

provided holding:

- proof of residence; and

- Tourist Card/FMT form issued by airlines (free of charge).

Immigration officers will decide on max. period of stay.

She can go anywhere a US Citizen is allowed to go for the amount of time the country permits. Just make sure she takes her passport and green card with her.

Do you plan on getting your wife a new Colombian passport with her married name? My wife and I just got back from Colombia (first time traveling with her GC) and I brought along our marriage license to show how her name changed between what was on her passport and what was on her GC. They just looked at the two and never asked to see the license.

So I guess there's no problem with her having different last names on the documents? Would this matter going to another country (such as Mexico)?

Not true. Each country sets visa requirements based on citizenship and legal residence. While the requirements will be the same in many countries, they will also differ in some countries. Many US permanent residents will still require a visa to EU countries while their USC spouse will not.

For travel to France: A citizen of Columbia with legal residence in the US will require a visa, but the USC spouse will not.

I would expect, however, that having legal US residence could make it easier to obtain some visas.

My wife (Brazilian citizen who would also need a visa) and I traveled to Mexico last month with no problem using just her passport and US Green Card. Her passport is still in her maiden name but we brought a copy of the marriage certificate (it was never asked for) incase it was needed. This is the second time the marriage certificate wasn't needed (we went to Brazil in January). I wonder if traveling together makes the difference.

Always check with each country to see what the requirements are. We are going on a cruise in November and she will need a visa to visit Grenada but I won't.
