My wife has entered the U.S as a K1 visa holder. We have met the first obligation of the requirement, which is to get married before the 90 days. We are now preparing for the application for the Adjustment of Status [Permanent Residency-Green Card]. We are currently in the process of completing the I-131 form for the Application for Travel Document. My wife has no plans on leaving the U.S but in case of emergency she would have to return.

Form: I-131

Q1: On Part 2: Application type, we are confused on which box we need to mark off “1A or 1D?” Also, could you provide information on what the difference is?

Note: My wife is not a U.S resident. She recently entered the U.S.

  • 1.A: I am a permanent resident or conditional resident of the United States and I am applying for a reentry permit.
  • 1.D: I am applying for an Advance Parole Document to allow me to return to the United States after temporary foreign travel.

Q2: In Part 3. Processing Information.

We do not have a specific date for travel. What information would have to annotate in the box?

Q3: In Part 4. Information about purpose of travel.

Does she have to annotate “for emergency” or does she have to provide detail information regarding her leave?

Q4: I just want to confirm that because I am filing form I-485 with the I-131 form, there will be no extra fee for filing I-131. Is this correct?
