Picking Up K1 Visa from the Post Office

I just picked up my K1 Visa from Canada Post! November 12th can't come quicker.

Quick question:

The package I picked up from Canada Post is a white packet that Canada Post would typically use for shipping. Am I not allowed to open this white packet or is the IV packet inside? I guess the main question is if I can open this white packet or not and that the one that can't be opened is inside this white packet.

When I received my package, I had the same question. I slightly tore the white post office packet at one edge so that I could get my passport, but I couldn't. I peeked inside and saw that my passport was wrapped around a yellow/brown envelope, and then tied to it with a rubber band. So I had to tear the white packet completely from one side to get my passport and the yellow/brown envelope. The yellow/brown envelope is the one you shouldn't open, it'll say "do not open" on it. It might also be already cut just a little bit on the side somewhere - that's normal too.

From what I recall, I opened the Canada Post envelope (that had my address and everything on it) and inside was my passport, a letter, and the sealed package. The sealed package had been stamped a number of times "DO NOT OPEN" on all sides. Hopefully that helps!

Well, I hope you two above are right. I'm super nervous to open this Canada Post shipping package and find out I wasnt supposed to do that. How sure are you two?

I am also very sure. At my interview the embassy (albeit the Vancouver embassy, not Montreal) made it very clear that the envelope I wasn't supposed to open would say "DO NOT OPEN" on it and it did, on both sides at least once. I remember because I joked to my fiancee about how it felt a little overkill. I needed to get my passport out of the Canada Post envelope with my address on it, so I didn't even hesitate to open that one.

If the envelope you're worried about opening is the one that was used to ship the whole package (including your passport) to you and it doesn't say "DO NOT OPEN" on it somewhere, then it should be fine.

You have to open the Canada Post package to get your passport, which you need to check in to your flight (are you flying?). Don't worry! promise it's OK to open the outer envelope! and you can look at your visa in your passport and go OOOOOH :)

Go ahead and open the Canada Post package. :)

Your passport will fall out, and there will be a white letter taped to another brown envelope stamped with "DO NOT OPEN" all over it.

If it helps, here's a photo of what was inside mine:

Thanks for all the help! I opened it yesterday and everything is good!

Yay! Now the exciting part (moving and getting married) followed by the next unpleasant part (filing MORE paperwork so you can do MORE waiting)! :P
