hi guys! so im from the UK and ive been living here since Dec 15 and me and my husband got married on January 21st 16 on a K1 visa.

Weve been looking at tickets to visit my family next june but i have a few questions.

first is about my passport, obviously i have a british passport with my maiden name in it, can i travel with it and take my marriage certificate to explain the name difference on my green card? or should i just get a new passport? and if i get a new passport, do i have to do it through the UK government still?

Also, my husband has never traveled out of the USA so he doesnt have a passport or anything, i know that to travel to the USA as a visitor you have to have an ESTA, does the UK have anything like this that we will need to acquire for him before we travel (other than a passport obviously)?

Get the ticket in the name on your passport. Bring your marriage certificate to show the green card name difference. U.S. citizens don't need a visa to visit the U.K. but certainly need a passport, which you've stated you know. You could change your passport to your married name but isn't necessary if you're in a timely email crunch. And of course to change a British passport you must go through the British government. You fill out a former and send it in, being in the U.S. it's sent to an address here and they'll do the rest. I love VJ, but often times just go ogling a question is far easier....

i tried googling it but my computer and internet are acting weird, plus i like to hear it from people who have done it themselves.

Thank you for answering, i just heard that some people have kept their old passport and taken their marriage certificate and still ran into problems when they come back into the USA

Unless the CO is incompetent or an a****** you'll be fine. In either case you are legal and will be admitted.

Why not make the changes to your passport while in the UK

your K 1 visa is no longer valid so you have to have green card

or travel permit to make it safe to reenter / not usually a problem for England but cover your bases

Could but I guess it depends on how long they're there and how long the process to renew it is. It's a viable option though.

To get a new UK passport you mail your old one back to the UK. There are forms online to complete. It costs extra from here because of courier back to US. It has been taking about a month lately to get a new passport while you are in US.

Or you can do as stated above and book in your passport name and bring your marriage certificate.
