Passport Pickup Info for Mumbai Embassy

Hello VJ members,

My wife is having her IR1 interview in Sept at Mumbai Consulate.

I am accompanying her to the Interview, and we plan to be in Mumbai for a few days after the interview.

So, few questions :

1) Is there an option that the Passport after Visa is granted , can be picked up from Mumbai itself, rather than it being couriered to home address?

If so, how should that be done, i.e the process for the same.

2) For people who were interviewed in Mumbai, how soon did you get your passport back from Consulate after Visa is granted for Immigrant Visa?

How are you going to attend Intervew wirh wife ? Any special entry or you just planing to walk right up there with passport ?

Anyway yes you need to take appointment for fingerprint and photo to be taken 24 hr prior to Intervew or early without that they won't let you walk inside embassy for Intervew.

When you take that appointment you have option to select passport pickup location.

Usually if approved its fast process and you should be able to pick up passport in 1 to 10 days usually 1 to 3 from same location you go for fingerprint or location you chose

The Mumbai Consulate doesn't allow spouses inside for the interview. She should choose or have chosen pickup of the passport and she can then pick up her passport with the visa. My husband had his interview in Mumbai and we were able to pick it up 3 days later.

Yes they allow according to their pdf Pattitionar USC may attend and company spouse for Intervew

I see that now in Packet 4. Funny, that's dated 1/2015 and when we had our interview in 5/2015 I wasn't allowed to attend. So it looks like they've changed the rules. Here's what it says:

"Who can attend my visa interview?

Generally, you may not bring anyone else, other than a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident relative who has petitioned for you, to your interview. We do make the following exceptions to this policy:

-Applicants under age 18 may be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

-Elderly applicants or applicants with disabilities may be accompanied by a helper."

Even now some people were not allowed and some got to go.

I am trying to go and see if they let me go otherwise I will go to hotel next door and hang around there lol

LOL I guess it couldn't hurt! I hope they let you in! Be prepared though, they may interview you as well!

Haha I been through one of them 12 yr ago on F4 with my parents and they ask me most of questions
