ah.. Bill Gates needs more H visas cuz americans are becoming sandblasters, drywall 'instalers'(dunno the word lol), nurses, and plumbers.. there are fewer and fewer people interested in the programmin business, and they want a million dollar salary to start with, they don't realize that it's becoming competitive, and other countries have people as good or better too.

so u don't buy HP or Compaq computers? they're assembled in Guadalajara, Mexico

So...why doesn't Mexico import more Chinese, Indian, or African workers to compete with your "overpaid" Mexican workers? There's always somebody that comes from a country with a lower GDP to exploit. After all, there are billions of people on earth that live on less than $1 a day.

Is that the new mantra in new world economics? We'll all race to the bottom cutting each other's throats?

Actually, yes... Mexico has an illegal immigration problem, too, except it's central American immigrants coming in to work in Mexican farms for lower wages. Mexicans can't get livable jobs, so they move north. A race to the bottom is good description of the situation.

It's not racist or xenophobic to want to secure the borders; but I have to question the motivation of a reporter who elides the difference between legal, temporary non-immigrant visitors and EWI and overstays under a broad heading of 'here come the Mexicans.' (And no, peejay, legal immigrants are not the problem. Illegal use of non-immigrants visas, maybe. EWI, definitely. But people legally here on a legal greencard having had all the checks are nothing to worry about.)

Mexico shoots to kill at its southern border. It has some of the strictist immigration laws of any sovereign nation. If we did to them what they do to their own illegals, then, we'd be xenophobes.

So true.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

If we compare that to say; the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, etc., then by the time it's all over, employers should be paying "skilled" workers, outrageous salaries.

I agree that closing our borders and cracking down on illegals is neither racist nor xenophobic. It is however, very costly, and there are plenty of other things that can be done first before we blame all of our economic and social problems on "illegal" immigration.
