The answer to this question is complicated, because the citizenship is several years away yet for many people, even those that have gotten their 10 year Permanent Resident card. As you know there are proposed fee increases for all immigration benefits, so total cost may change in October of this year.....Perhaps in the new fiscal year for USCIS (begins Oct 1, 2007) the new fees will be announced for all petitions, and then you'll have a better idea of total cost.

Fees will increase quite significatly, if the fee increases for the next fiscal year are approved. Fiscal year for the USCIS starts in October. Also total cost will vary a bit in each circumstance.

You will pay the inital filing fee for K-1 which is current $170 (proposed $455), plus probably a few trips to kinkos to get everything printed and copied (it ads up pretty quickly). In the interview/medical stage, you will have to pay around $100 for the medical (varies depending on what vaccinations are needed), and then another $100 for the visa. At this stage you may have some costs to have translations done.

After your fiancee arrives in the US and you are married, you can file for AOS. Currently, there are 4 fees depending if you choose to file for EAD and AP. If the new fees are put into place, the AP and EAD documents will be free of you have an AOS processing. The total fees with fingerprinting will be around $1000.

2 Years after AOS, you can apply for removal of conditions. The current fee for this is $205 the proposed fee is $465. Naturalization which is optional, is currently $330 with a proposed fee of $595.

Its likely if you start now, you will probably be paying the proposed fees for AOS and beyond. The proposed fees may vary from what will actually be implemented in the upcomming fee change.

I just read this from another post which states that next year (2008), an increase is expected. bad news! Let's hurry it up folks!!! :dance:

The increases for a K-1 applicant would be as follows:

Form and amount increased/decreased:

I-129f --> $285 (petition for fiancee of US Citizen)

I-485 --> $580 (filing for adjustment of status to get green card)

I-131 --> $-170 (no cost to file or renew while I-485 is being processed; required if you travel outside the US before getting a green card)

I-765 --> $-180 (no cost to file or renew while I-485 is being processed; optional but almost always filed so applicant can work)

I-751 --> $260 (almost always required if I-485 is approved within 2 years of marriage)

N-400 --> $265 (application for Citizenship)

Total = $1,040 increase (current rates total: $1,380, proposed rates total: $2,420)

I've only been frenetically researching the stage I am in... So $170 to file, and $100 at the interview appears pretty cheap. But, the hidden costs (not counting the HOURS and DAYS of research and prparation of packets) are higher for me... i.e.- translation of documents for 129F=$100.00, DHL from Turkey to here..$90.00USD, Kinkos copying costs and Staples supplies= $60.00 USD. Mailing costs for overnight express- $20.00 USD

We'll not even speak of hotels, trains and airfare for the interview.

I'm curious as to the total for processing fees once my fiance enters the USA in October, Novermber.

Thanks for posting this question!
