Hello. We're just beginning to gather documents and forms to remove conditions on my husband's 2 year green card. I didn't realize that there would be a mandatory biometrics appointment date assigned to us. We're planning to get the paperwork in during the first week of August and then have plans to travel out of the country to visit my husband's family from late August until late September. We'll be away a month. His green card doesn't expire until the end of October, at which point we'll be back in the country. Does this seem like it's going to be a big problem in terms of potentially missing a biometrics appointment or are they not processing them so quickly?

If he misses the biometrics appointment the application will be denied. Might be better to wait and file when he gets back to the US.

People miss their biometric appointments and go in late. Or if your biometric letter come quickly after NOA1, do a walk-in at your center and ask to do them since you will be away on the assigned appointment day.

Recent example of going in late. I have read of dozens who were okay. But of course skipping the trip is an option.

Thank you all so much. I'm so annoyed at myself that I didn't think of this earlier and we're all booked for the trip and are scheduled to photograph my brother in law's wedding at the end of September so skipping the trip isn't really an option. You mentioned waiting to file until we get back. That may be a good way to go. We get back on September 28, so could file on the 29th. His green card is valid through October 29, so that's a month ahead of time. Is there any benefit to applying right at the beginning of the 3 month window? Or rather, is there any risk to applying later as long as it's within that time period? Thank you all again.

The benefit of apply at the beginning of the 90 day window is that it gives you more time to get the extension letter before your green card expires. You will be fine if you wait to send it when you get back. You just need to send it before his card expires.
