Hi I would like to ask regarding previous suicide attempts as me and partner she is the USA citizen are looking to put in for the k1 visa next year.

I had previous suicide attempts due to my life circumstances at the time a couple of months ago (victim of crime, made homeless due to domestic violence twice, threatened with violence)

I never had previous self harm or suicide attempts before this. I was never detained only went in voluntary to get help.

As I am recovering from this step by step as my life circumstances have changed heavily for the better will this be used to deny me the K1 Visa down the line considering I am recovering and will not make another attempt or self harm as step by step I have overcome the circumstances that caused it to occur in the first place just no paper to prove this yet. I can get it if it it needed.

Is their any recommendations that can be made here please.

I appreciate that I may be judged my circumstances was appalling which happened entirely through no fault of my own.

You'll be asked to get a letter from your psychiatrist to be taken to your medical. I suggest you do a search to get more info on this subject, musing the search bar on the homepage, you'll see you're not the only one that has had this experience.

I found this recent thread, that can help you start your research. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/583514-discrepancy-on-my-medical-records-suicide/

Best of luck!

I can tell you that others with suicide attempts have gotten visas from London. The one you have to convince is the doctor at Knightsbridge clinic where you will have your visa medical exam prior to the interview. They will typically want a letter from your doctor or psychiatrist outlining your treatment, meds, and says specifically that you "are no longer a threat to yourself or others."

Now with an attempt so recent, you may not get that out of your doctor. You will not be having your visa exam for some months so if you are seeking counseling/medical help, keep it up and establish a good rapport with your doctor because he is really the key to say if you pose a threat. Some won't go out on a limb and make that prediction in writing. What if your life goes pear-shaped again? Does he know how you will react? If he does write the statement, then generally the visa doctor takes his word. And in turn, the embassy goes by what the visa doctor concludes.

Knightsbridge has also had people get a psychiatric evaluation in certain instances. You have a chance, but nobody can predict the outcome of an individual case.

Here's what I will offer to you, and there's absolutely no judgment in what I'm about to say. It sounds like your life is on the up & up, and that's great. I'm glad you're getting help you need and I encourage you to continue getting that help, not only now, but after immigrating to the US. I would be very careful, though, in making a big transition from such a recent difficult time in your life to going through the engagement and subsequent immigration process. It's extremely stressful and can strain even the strongest relationships. I've not attempted suicide, but I struggle with serious anxiety problems, and even though I'm currently living with my fiance abroad, this process hasn't been easy. On the other side of that coin, though, I've seen how much my fiance loves me and how supportive he is of me, even in my least impressive moments. So, go into this process thoughtfully, and continue seeking help. As much as possible, build a supportive network and surround yourself with positive people and hobbies that help you stay focused on staying healthy.
