Ok so we filed the paperwork for AOS last week and from what I'm reading the timeline from application to receiving the green card is around a year. My husband is up for orders soon and if he is assigned an overseas duty station will be leaving early next year (around March)

Do we have to wait for his specific orders to put in an expedite request? I'm just thinking ahead because if the AOS timeframe is correct then I possibly won't get my GC by the time we are supposed to move.

If you look at this years aos threads you can see people are getting interviews and green cards a lot faster. I'd say it's a good bet to expect yours wishing 6 months, so you'll be fine.

But if you can ask for an expedite, why not? Go for it! Anything to speed up things.

Good luck

Military transfer orders?

He needs to go to his CO and ask for them to help with the process

it goes a lot faster if military puts in requests

Ok I'll have him ask his CO though I'm not sure what they'll be able to say without hard orders yet. I guess they can give a letter confirming that he'll be changing duty stations next year. Thank you!

I just read a thread where a member applied in May of 2015 and is yet to receive their GC. Fingers crossed that's not our case too lol.

Awesome!! I'm gonna have my husband ask his CO for a letter stating the same and also get a copy of his current orders to show when they end. Thanks for the tip.

Seeing that you are going through k-1 theres a big chance you will be approved in no-time anyways... i wanted to expedite but didnt.... got approved within 2 months... all is possible, just make sure u send everything correct and as asked for, and keep track of everything, call uscis every once in a while... i have seen lots of k1 approved within 3-4 months (ofc there are exeptions and i hope for you youre not one of those)
