NVC Phase of CR-1 Visa - A Few Questions

Well guys I just got home from work and checked my email and found a little surprise from the NVC. Here I am waiting for a case complete email and it looks like they skipped past that and just gave me an interview date right away. It is January 17th. First thing next week I need to look into scheduling the medical exams and get my wife moving on getting all the needed documents. I am sure I will have some questions in the near future but right now I'm gonna call my wife and give her the good news then pass out for a few hours before I go back to work. Something I will be doing a lot of in the next couple months.

Congratulations! It's not unusual for NVC to skip the CC email when you get your CC at the end of the month. Definitely very exciting news, especially after all the bumps in the road you had to endure. So you will be with your wife for your anniversary after all :)

I'm still waiting for my husband's greencard; no status on the USCIS website until now, but I hear that's usually how it is until they actually produce the card. Maybe we'll get it as a Christmas gift ?

Hi JG,that's good to hear but keep in mind that you might be getting an email from the Embassy saying that NVC didn't forward something and you will have to send to your Wife like what happened to me. But Happy Holidays to you

Got a question. The email I got says my wife needs an original signed copy of the affidavit of support. I submitted an original copy to NVC. Do I really need to pay $60 to FedEx my wife another one?

Well, this is where it gets tricky. Many people say you should send an original copy of the i-864 just to be sure, even though you sent it already to NVC. But, the embassy at Manila will send you & your wife an email when they receive the cases and let you know what other documents your wife will need to bring. In the email my husband got, he was not told to bring a copy of the i-864, just the original copies of his civil documents. For a while I got anxious about whether or not to send another i-864, and in the end, I decided to just send a copy of all the financial documents, including the i-864. On the day of his interview, he wasn't even asked for anything, except for pictures of us and our individual CEMARs. I understand that each case is different; so it's really up to you. But my advice is it's better to be over-prepared than under.

My wife said that if your 864 is current (ie no new tax returns have been submitted since you sent the original 864 to the NVC, then you won't need to provide another original). The real set of required documents that the USEM will want to see will be attached to the USEM letter for your specific case, kinda.

One that was not specifically checked off on our letter was the CENOMAR/CEMAR document. Make sure that Lisa obtains this document before the interview to prove proper registration of your marriage.

We are currently working on the CENOMAR. She got one with her maiden name but they told her there are no records for her married name. One question. Does she need an original copy of my birth certificate? If so I will have to pay for FedEx anyways.

I was just wondering because the email I got says all original copies of documents need to be brought to the embassy. I remember submitting my original birth certificate for my passport but they mailed it back to me when the process was over.

Same thing with ours. Letter from embassy only required civil docs. The only thing different they ask for was pics from last visit. Had her bring copies of everything and a new signed I-864 to be on the safe side.

If you are asking if the embassy requires an original copy of the BC from PSA.. yes.
