Hello all,

I have been reading this very helpful forum from time to time and getting tips to fill out the documents. Now I am stuck at something that I couldn't find a lot of info so I am starting a new thread.

I sponsored my wife last year and just received the NVC Welcome Letter (ACL) notice recently. I am working to complete the steps mentioned in the letter from NVC, paying the fees and collecting affidavit of support financial documents. My sister is also sponsored her husband at the same time and she is currently in the same state as I am but she needs a co-sponsor. She has been working at a decent paying full time job for a year now but her wages for 2014 and 2015 aren't enough because she only worked part-time so I want to be a co-sponsor for her.

According to the USCIS poverty guidelines I can support a 3,4 people and I have no dependent right now. I am concerned that being a sponsor in two active cases of immigration could delay either one of our case, which is the last thing we want. Will sponsoring my wife and acting as a joint sponsor in my sister's case, affect either one of our case negatively?

I truly appreciate your time and effort to help us out.

Thanks.

It wouldn't affect any cases negatively as long as your income is not marginal for the number of household mentioned on your i864.

FYI, if your sister is earning well above the poverty guidelines this year, she doesn't need a joint sponsor. Her current year estimated income supported by employment verification and few months of paystubs would be good enough.

If her current annual income meets the requirement for her household size plus the intending immigrant, then she does not need a joint sponsor. It is based on current annual income, not past. She provides letter from employer and recent pay stubs to prove her current income amount.

If you still wish to be her joint sponsor, then you certainly can. You can sponsor as many people as your income will allow. If you have no dependents, then you would just need enough for a household of 3, yourself, your spouse and the intending immigrant.

Thank you for the response .... it's a relief to know that. I was under the impression that since they ask last 3 years of tax returns, all those returns must have to be meet or exceed poverty guidelines. My sister has a much much higher income to support a spouse but we thought it had to be consistently over the guidelines for past three years.

Should she write a letter explaining all this or just send in the papers to NVC and wait for the reply ? Any other suggestion ?

Thanks
