Hello!

My husband is currently in the process of getting his conditions removed on his permanent residency. He has a biometrics appointment next week and his current green card expires August 18th, 2016. We received a notice from USCIS a couple weeks ago saying that his green card has been extended for 1 year and that he has permission to travel in that time.

My questions are:

1. Does he receive a new green card once he has the biometrics appointment or is that later? Would he received a new Green Card for the 1 year extension or does he only receive a new Green Card once he is approved for the 10 year green card?

2. We plan to visit his home country in December, which will be after his current green card expires. Do we need to make special arrangements with USCIS to travel abroad for 2 months? I'm thinking he would need to show his green card or some sort of documentation once we get back from his home country saying that he is currently in the process of getting his conditional status removed/getting a 10 year green card.

3. Also, after the biometrics appointment, do they generally require an interview as well. If so, do they interview both the spouse and the green card holder?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

He does not receive a new green card until USCIS has approved the Removal petition. He will not receive a 1 year extension green card. The letter that you got serves as his 1 yr extension. So when you travel to Thailand you need to have the extension letter with you and when you return you need to have it with you. I traveled by air and on a cruise ship last November and had no issues.

No need for special arrangements, just have your 1 year extension to present with green card.

3. Also, after the biometrics appointment, do they generally require an interview as well. If so, do they interview both the spouse and the green card holder?

They may require an interview and if they do they will send you a notice. I would have someone check your mail just in case while you are gone.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!
