Hello all,

I am asking this question on behalf of friend who is naturalization within a week’s time. He has 3 children under 18 who will also naturalize on the same day he takes his oath.

Does he need to hand in the kids green cards when he submits his at the ceremony?? Thanks so much for your help and apologies if this question has been addressed before.

The kids can gain the citizenship by applying for certificate of citizenship or US passport. Their green card and your certificate of naturalization will be required for their citizenship application.

The kids are already US citizens. They will not "gain citizenship", and there is no "citizenship application". Their green card and the OP's certificate of naturalization serves as proof of the kids' US citizenship.

hi

his children will derive citizenship after he takes the oath, not at the same time, the children have nothing to do with or at his oath ceremony

once he has his certificate in hand, they will have derived citizenship and he can apply for their US passports and the certificate, but the certificate is optional

they will need the GCs to prove that they are LPR

Not if they don't have certificate of citizenship or passports to prove their citizenship. They still have to apply for either of those documents to show they are US citizens.
