Hi, i have just received my AP document and am leaving to stay with my mother in England to help her for 3 months, she is a senior citizen and carer for my mentally ill brother who lives with her so it is important i support her. My questions is: What can i do if i get interview date set while i am still abroad and can not make the date?

I am wondering whether i could let the offices know before hand so it is scheduled over there, also my dear one who petitioned for me is staying here so i was unsure about being interviewed there with out her.

Any help would be very appreaciated by me at this time thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

:time: when you get a chance.

What type of visa are you adjusting from?

Generally, when you receive the Form I-797c, Request for Applicant to Appear for Initial Interview, if you are selected for an AOS interview, the form contains a good deal of information, such as these statements:

Failure to appear for this interview and/or failure to bring the below listed items will result in the denial of your application.

If your eligibility is based on your marriage, your husband, or wife must come with you to the interview.

If an emergency... prevents you from attending the interview you are instructed to contact the USCIS National Customer Service Center, at 1-800-375-5283, as soon as possible to reschedule. Please be advised that rescheduling will delay processing of application/petition, and may require some steps to be repeated.....

I would suggest that you make an InfoPass appointment and discuss your situation with an immigration officer.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Receiving a notice for an interview appears to be somewhat random, so I am not sure you can do anything beforehand as this is at the discretion of your local office. Also, since interviews are at the local office I don't think you would be able to have it conducted abroad, but as Pitaya mentioned, that depends on your initial visa. I would think your best bet would be to keep your travel plans very flexible so you can come back for an interview, and hope that you don't actually have one. Also, keep in mind that it may not look very good interviewing for a GC if you plan to spend a great deal of time away.

Good Luck!
