Hi everyone,

I apologise in advance if this topic was open by someone else already but I'm wondering whether me and my fiancee only meeting once will result in a problem with our K1 visa.

We met months ago, for work reasons we were only able to meet in May and I'm going to the States in 3 weeks to spend some more time together, we are also planning a trip back to Italy in September so that he can meet my family. We have pictures, boarding passes, itineraries and passport stamps that document the fact he came to see me in London (which is where I live and work) and that I'm going there at the end of the month. I'm concerned the fact we only met once might result in an RFE and delay the process.

Can someone please clarify this for me?

Thank you very much in advance.

The requirements of the K1 is to have met once in the last 2 years. So if by months ago you mean within the last 24 months you have met the requirement. You wouldn't get an RFE for that.

By the time you get to the interview stage of the process you will have another visit under your belt and London is not a difficult embassy. You will be fine.

we met once (one week) and she got visa last month. Take at least 5 pictures you and him only. We had only one together the rest were with family members and CO asked why we have only one. Sounds silly but true :)

It should be pointed out that the K-1 visa process is a two step process. Step one is the petition filed by the USC asking to bring their fiancé(e) to the US to get married. The requirement their is that the petitioner proves they are a USC and that the petitioner and beneficiary have meet within the last 24 months from the date of the petition. The petition is easy to get approved. Step two is to have an interview at the beneficiary's Embassy/Consulate to see if the relationship is legit and not being used to circumvent US immigration laws to bring the beneficiary to the US just to get a GC. This is where is gets more complicated as it is up to each Embassy/Consulate to determine what they feel constitutes a legitimate relationship. Some require meeting several times. Some require following local customs for two people who expect to get married. Others do not care as long as your petition was approved.

You have met the requirements for step one. Not sure about step two, but you are going thru London and they typically do not care about meeting and all that as the US and UK are on par as far as living standards go.

Hi and thank you for your reply!

I was only wondering about step 1 as I'm dreading and RFE cause it would only drag the process longer, I'm not concerned about step 2 as we'll have no problem showing that this is not a sham marriage :)

Thank you again, you guys are very kind here :)
