I didn't say you were, I said I don't. I'm proud of what she achieved and had to fight to get to where she is today, not happy she's breaking her body now. I recall I already told you in the past we will be closing in 3.5 years once she feels she accomplished what she set out to. And then she will be in her 40's retired/on disability. THAT's how much damage was already done.

What did I just read???? Intrigued as to the nature of the business! Lol

What paperwork? She didn't do no paperwork.

She did not go over that amount for just holiday help. Had she come in every Tuesday she would have, but, for someone her age it would still have been alot better than mcdonalds.

As a subcontractor it was her responsibility to keep records of her income and pay any applicable taxes, social security and medicare. Even if she didn't have to pay taxes on the amount you paid her, she still has to keep the records and file taxes. She has to report the income. You are also required to report her income to the IRS.

Seeing she also had a second job, she most definitely needed to file her taxes and report the income she made at your shop.

Details, mere details for a man of business.

I thought she owned a florist shop? What's all this talk about breaking one's body?

i feel like you're out of touch with working class america, considering your exemplification of your wife as a unique worker.

Actually, she is, and no, I'm not.

I've explained some of it here in the past:

You don't even know the half of it. She's told me many times that if it wasn't for me, by now she'd be dead. So you can say well that's her experience not mine. Well I wasn't born with a silver spoon either. Took me many years to get somewhere and like I said it all took and still takes working way more than 40 hours a week.

It matters not to us how much she makes anywhere else.

You use Form 1099-MISC, Miscellaneous Income for payments of $600 or more to your subcontractors.

Yes yes, another one of those that come in and go "oh it must be so much fun, when I retire I wanna be a florist!". No, when you retire you don't wanna be a florist. Being a florist WILL cause you to retire sooner. Being a florist is like being a football player. People have absolutely no clue what a physical and demanding job it is. Just ask any professional in the industry and they will tell you. You think they just sit there all day and play with pretty flowers? I swear construction workers have it easier. This job will break you, plain and simple. Not to mention that in the past when she was working 3 jobs, she was doing other things too like being a waitress.

yes, that's your responsibility. you are not taking into account that lazy sarah has to file her taxes as a subcontractor if she makes over a certain amount of money over the course of the entire tax year.

I didn't say it matters to you how much she makes elsewhere. I'm not sure what that link is supposed to prove, but #2 does say exactly what I was saying about you reporting the income, anything over $600.

Don't you think that the hard time your wife is having at such an early age in life tells you that working all those hours is not good?

yes, that's your responsibility. you are not taking into account that lazy sarah has to file her taxes as a subcontractor if she makes over a certain amount of money over the course of the entire tax year.

Lazy Sarah may have some recourse is she has been misclassified

"You are not an independent contractor if you perform services that can be controlled by an employer (what will be done and how it will be done). This applies even if you are given freedom of action. What matters is that the employer has the legal right to control the details of how the services are performed."

Misclassification of Employees Consequences of Treating an Employee as an Independent Contractor

If you classify an employee as an independent contractor and you have no reasonable basis for doing so, you may be held liable for employment taxes for that worker (the relief provisions, discussed below, will not apply). See Internal Revenue Code section 3509 for more information.

Relief Provisions

If you have a reasonable basis for not treating a worker as an employee, you may be relieved from having to pay employment taxes for that worker. To get this relief, you must file all required federal information returns on a basis consistent with your treatment of the worker. You (or your predecessor) must not have treated any worker holding a substantially similar position as an employee for any periods beginning after 1977. See Publication 1976, Section 530 Employment Tax Relief Requirements (PDF) for more information.

Misclassified Workers Can File Social Security Tax Form

Workers who believe they have been improperly classified as independent contractors by an employer can use Form 8919, Uncollected Social Security and Medicare Tax on Wages to figure and report the employee’s share of uncollected Social Security and Medicare taxes due on their compensation. See the full article Misclassified Workers to File New Social Security Tax Form for more information.

Voluntary Classification Settlement Program

The Voluntary Classification Settlement Program (VCSP) is a new optional program that provides taxpayers with an opportunity to reclassify their workers as employees for future tax periods for employment tax purposes with partial relief from federal employment taxes for eligible taxpayers that agree to prospectively treat their workers (or a class or group of workers) as employees. To participate in this new voluntary program, the taxpayer must meet certain eligibility requirements, apply to participate in the VCSP by filing Form 8952, Application for Voluntary Classification Settlement Program, and enter into a closing agreement with the IRS.

Ori has rescued her! Stop putting him down, man!

Just seems odd that a few posts ago he was calling anyone who worked less than 55 hours a week lazy, but now he's saying that his wife working all those hours has caused her body to breakdown prematurely and now she needs to file for disability.
