Hi everyone!

My fiance and I are working on applying for a K1 Visa right now. I'm American and he lives in England. He's planning on coming here and we're wanting to settle down and live here. We're pretty confident on all the requirements except for the financial requirement. I live with my parents. I do work but I have a pretty low salary. However, he comes from a very rich family and has a lot of money in a few different accounts. He has more than enough money to support both of us comfortably for a number of years. I can't support him but he can definitely support the both of us. Will they accept that as proof of financial stability or do I need to be making enough money to support us?

I can't find the answer anywhere! Every google search just brings up the same thing I keep reading: the sponsor needs to be providing the money. But if he has so much money, it wouldn't make sense for us to be denied because I don't have a lot of money. Please tell me I'm freaking out for nothing and they'll accept the proof that he has money!

Thanks so much. :)

Yes. For the K1 interview in London, they will accept self-sponsoring.

When he later adjusts status (AOS) in the US, his assets may be counted also. However, keep in mind that the amount need to be at least 3x the 125% threshold for your household. Also, the money need to be in US bank accounts, obviously.

Can't usually use foreign funds to prove support - but I see someone says differently. It seems strange to allow someone to financially sponsor themselves without needing the requirements of a U.S. sponsor. Think about the consequences and myriad scenarios! Also, be aware that some things are not as they appear. How do you really know his financial health? You need to ask yourself a few questions and move forward with much care.

The financial requirement is a significant one. If, for some reason, he lost his money or was financially wiped out, who would support him? You admit low finances, so make sure your parents are willing to put themselves on the legal/financial line for him. Good luck!

i 134 can be self sponsored.
