Hello

My birthday was a few days ago and am wondering what options do I have if any. I read through this thread ( http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/505986-selective-service-issue/page-2)and the general answer is that I am screwed. My reasons for not registering was that I thought I had done so. I clearly remember doing it online and actually submitting the application. But I've talked to friends who told me theirs didn't work because they didn't have a Social security number. I checked SS to see if I was registered and I was not.

I am now 26 and currently have DACA. Now I have finished school so I am not worrying about any financial aid or working at a federal job or state job but I am concerned about if I ever adjust my status from DACA. I am not married or plan to anytime soon. From what I understand is that after 26 I have no options left and if I ever do tryb to adjust for USA naturalization I will be denied. However after 5 years of good moral character/after turning 31 I will no have problems adjusting. I live in Oregon but I am not sure how not registering will affect me. I read its up to the agency ( whoever needs me to be SS registered) not SS if can I appeal why I didn't registered. I honestly don't know what I can do since it seems everything is going against me.

I won't talk about the reasons of not double checking to see if I was since I am sure it'll be among the hundreds of thousands reasons said.

Thank you for reading this

hi

you are confusing things, if someone files a petition for you, you get a green card,

the citizenship is after having a green card for several years, so you will be over 31, so no problem

unless you entered legally in the country, you cannot adjust status from DACA

Oh yes, I understand my only option to get a green card with DACA is via marriage.and DACA itself won't do much help here. I entered legally so I suppose that wont be problem but still I am worry about any other consequences

This shouldn't be an issue for you as you're not yet a permanent resident. Once you turn 31 it will no longer be an issue, and you can naturalize if eligible by then after living as lawful permanent resident. Chances are by the time you get married, adjust status and live 3 years as a lawful permanent resident before naturalization you'll already must've hit the 31st birthday bar.

I almost had the same issue. I didn't know about the selective services till I start filling N-400 and I was already over 26 years. When I checked the SSS website, it showed that there is no record. So, I called them to check if I'm registered and they asked for my GC number and social security and they updated my information. It turned out that I was registered long time ago but the system couldn't identify my status since there are some missing information in the system I guess.

So, there is a chance that you need to update your information with selective service system. because usually they register you when you get your GC or driving license automatically. And that was my case. I advise you to call the registration information office (you can find it in their website) and inquire if you are already registered.
