I'm just doing a bit of 'homework' for my daughter who is immigrating to the States to be with her US husband. They are most of the way through the visa process having just sent off the DS260 visa packet/police check etc. She wants an idea of what she will need to take to interview as she has just realised her husband posted his original tax transcripts with the packet and forgot to get copies of them. Would she need these for the interview in London? She has a copy of his W2 and tax returns.... Is it worth them paying to get more transcripts? Thanks for your help.

IRS transcripts are free. Could he request another set and then scan and email them to her? She could then print out to take to interview.

I just requested my 2015 tax transcript and it was mailed to my house free of charge within one week.

Not sure about London Embassy. Someone with experience will chime in on that part.

Good Luck!

I don't know about the London embassy in particular either, but the embassy should already have the transcripts you submitted with the I-864 so I doubt she'd need those again (unless anything has changed by the time of the interview; FWIW, I did not need to provide the transcripts we had already submitted to the NVC at my interview in Serbia).

However, if you want some extra peace of mind, the transcripts are free, like LionessDean mentioned, so her husband could just get them again and email/mail them to her. They can take up to two weeks to get by mail, but he should be able to get them the same day if he goes to an IRS office and requests them there in person.

From what I've read, originals of everything they ask for should go to the interview. Usually the "copies" are only up until the end of the NVC stage, and it's at the interview they want originals. Not of everything though.... I think you receive a list of what to bring? Others will no doubt confirm that.

From what I've read it's generally the originals of the civil docs part of the NVC packet that they want at the interview, so the stuff that's listed under supporting documents on the NVC document cover sheet and potentially the petitioner's divorce decrees if any since they wouldn't have gotten an original of that by interview time. The affidavit of support (I-846) shouldn't be necessary as that's one of the originals that would be sent in to the NVC unless there was reason to update the I-864 in which case she definitely should have a copy of that with a wet signature (i.e., an "original").

But yes, like Thesmiths2016 indicates, once her case is complete at NVC she'll get an interview letter that will have a checklist at the end which will indicate what all she needs to bring to the interview and will specify which of the things need to be originals.

In the personal experience department, when I had my interview in Serbia, they wanted the following from me: my passport, two passport style photos, and the originals of: my birth certificate, our marriage certificate, and my police clearance certificate. The CO was also interested in going through some of the pictures I brought of my wife and me. Of course, YMMV.
