Dear kind and wonderful people of VisaJourney.com,

I have been reading this forum in the last month while preparing for my I-129F petition pack / K-1 Visa application. THANK YOU for many useful tips and advice. It was REALLY helpful and calming to know that there are MANY people that are working on the same objectives and are successful, congrats!

So here's my situation:

My fiancé, a US citizen, and myself, an Indonesian citizen, have agreed to get married in the U.S. At the moment we are both living in Bali, Indonesia and we / he has no plan to fly back to the US in the near future without finishing the I-129F petition / without me. So we agreed to compile our documents / files / forms / datas from our home in Bali, Indonesia and will send the pack via FedEx / courier service to the USCIS office in Lewisville, TX. As of now all is good and we have almost every required documentations ready for submission.

HOWEVER: I have a little confusion about how to pay the filling fee for our I-129F ($340), since both my fiancé and myself are living OUTSIDE the US and its territory.

I TRIED: Phoning the Consulate General Of The United States in Surabaya, Indonesia on March 29 2016. RESULT: They do not handle any inquiry related to Imigrant Visa, and refer me to the Embassy of the United States in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I TRIED: Phoning the Embassy of the United States, Jakarta, Indonesia, March 30 2016. RESULT: They do not handle any payment related to Immigrant Visa / Petition and refer me to the USCIS Bangkok Field Office, who has has jurisdiction over U.S. immigration matters in Indonesia.

I TRIED: Phoning the USCIS Bangkok Field Office several times on April 6, and April 7 2016. RESULT: No answer.....

I TRIED: Emailing the USCIS Bangkok Field Office with my inquiry and contact details on April 7 2016. RESULT: Still waiting for a response.

Additional info, the lady in the US Embassy Jakarta shared with me that I should ask my fiancé's family in the U.S. to complete the payment. My fiancé has a sister in PA, and would most definitely able to help us. My only thing is that if we do this, then she has to send the whatever proof of payment she has to Bali, Indonesia OR we have to send our petition pack to her address in PA, she will then have attach the proof of payment to our pack and then send it to the USCIS office in Lewisville, TX... This to me sounds like a lot of kerfuffle (#ShoutOut #Lou&Andy #LittleBritain) and I would hate to have to bother my fiancé's sister as she's a VERY busy person.

QUESTION: Has anyone on Visa Journey been in a similar / same situation as me and my fiancé (filling petition from abroad)?? What would you suggest for us to do? or What is the solution?

I look forward to hearing from you.

THANK YOU in advance.

Best,

Teak

That is exactly the method that is often recommended in this forum for folks similarly situated as yourselves.

Welcome to the forum.

You can do whatever chant that suits you, you will have to remember that this is their field, their ballgame, and their rules. Your situation is not new or novel, and if you want to file the petition, you will have to follow their instructions, explicitly.

Take some time to become acquainted with how other similarly situated folks have worked through similar situations by reviewing some forum threads. Many of the US embassies/consulates can only be contacted via email. This information is often ready accessible at the respective official websites, and also "Embassy Info" tab, easily accessible at the top of the forum page.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Hiya Teak! We were also in the same situation. I (US Citizen) and fiancee (Indonesian Citizen) prepared all documents for I-129F petition here in Bali. For us, the easiest method with the least amount of worries was to send all the documents to my mother in the U.S. She got a cashiers check for the required fee at the US post office and sent it to the correct USCIS location. She then emailed me a copy of receipt and tracking.

We sent the documents through EMS Indonesian post with tracking and it cost around 200,000 IDR. I read reviews on outgoing service from Indonesia and most seem positive, the trouble is with incoming shipments into Indonesia. We made sure to label the package as documents and list the value under $5 USD. It took about a week to arrive in Hawaii from Bali, no problems. IMPORTANT : Make at least one duplicate of entire package before sending, we made 2 duplicates to be extra safe.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask us. Also if you'd like to meet up and talk about the process send me a pm, we'll be in Bali until mid-June.

Take care n Aloha!

Wulan & Ian
