Different Name on Chat Logs

Hi everyone! I have read several forum topics but I could not find a similar situation to mine, so I thought that I would ask just to make sure so I do not overthink it later. I'm the petitioner for a K-1 visa and I'm just now filling out Form I-129f, but I'm a little confused. My fiance's name is legally Alen but he absolutely hates the spelling and pronunciation so he has, for the past few years, used Alan as his name on social media accounts and I am very used to using it to refer to him. We've known each other for two and a half years and I've called him Alan since the beginning in all of our chat logs. In all of my letters and forms and such I've used his legal name, and I have explained why my photographic proof such as screenshots list his name as Alan, but I am worried that the people reviewing our case will see it as something wrong. I also do not know if I should list "Alan" where it asks in Form I-129f if he uses other names. I know that the question is referring to legal names, but I still do not run into other issues... I thought it would be best to ask more experienced people regarding this dilemma. Thank you so much in advance for any help!

Yes, enter his name Alan as other names used. You can attach a sheet to the form that explains it was not used for legal purposes but just a nickname

Sorry, but where did you find that quote? I was in a similar situation to the original poster, and tried to research it. On the official USCIS website for the I-129F instructions (https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf) it says nothing like this. I can't find any confirmation anywhere officially that this is necessary. Just looking for a source for your reply, not questioning your knowledge.

Additionally after searching more for the location of that quote, it appears on the USCIS website here at https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-914instr.pdf, but that appears to be instructions for the I-914 and not the I-129F.

A quick question with this topic, would it be any name like, if my fiancee's name is Joe but online he goes by Marneys or something weird like that, and our chatlogs say marneys would i need to put marneys or would nicknames be only actual names?

Here in the I-129 for immigrant worker it also says to include nicknames.

My suggestion to OP was to put down the name that was used for the chat logs and communication with an explanation and attach it to the form

simply because it would clear up doubts once it reaches the CO. There have been times when a CO will question other names used for communication

and submitted which can be confusing to some CO's who want to find an excuse to refuse to issue the visa and return the petition to USCIS.
In my opinion it is a simple thing to explain and attach a sheet. No, you don't have to but you can. Your choice.

If only Auntie Elsie calls you a certain nick name, no don't enter it. If you have a social media account with a made up name, no need to enter that name.

This is what we did. My husband's name is legally spelled Michell (pronounced Michael...not Mitchell) but he doesn't like it that way so on his social media, he spells it how he thinks it should be. In Spanish you can spell the same word like 12 different ways. For example: Michell, Maycol, Maicol, Michael....what a mess lol

When I wrote the letter for "how we met" for the I-129f I briefly mentioned to whomever reads it that "you will notice in our various chats that he prefers to spells his name this way"

Never got any questions on it
