USCIS Suggested INFOPASS For More Info

I was pointing out the information not for the fee increase a subject matter but as evidence you can use when discussing the issue with USCIS or whomever. So that they or the congressional staffer, etc, doesn't just look at the USCIS processing times and say "call us in 3 months."

You can then respond: look, I know why it says that, and I can appreciate that this is just an average, but this here government report says 2.9 months is the average processing time for an I-129F. So once it gets to be much past 2.9 months, I'd ask again. Nothing may change - but I'm a great believer in arming yourself with as much hard data as possible.

I was never very good at math, and someone can correct me if my take on the information I read on this link.

http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01...007/E7-1631.htm posted by TimsDaisy. (Thanks by the way, it was interesting.)

Doesn't that 2.9 month average look so good because VSC is processing cases so much faster? If VSC was also processing I129F's in 3+ months instead of 3-4 weeks (I hate that I don't live somewhere up North right about now.) wouldn't that 2.9 months average be closer to 6 months? That average shown is comprehensive for both VSC and CSC right, not just California? IF so, it doesn't serve as much "amunition" because then we're back to California is processing applications from both TSC and NSC along with their own, so the 6 months is what one has to wait before they can inquire as to what could be wrong. I may be wrong, but that's how I read and understood the info.

VJ's compiled data for the last 3 months shows CSC processing in around 85 days. That's about 2.9 months. Over the life of the data, it's about 98 days. That's a bit over 3 months. So while you're correct that VSC helps to draw down the numbers, VSC is also a vastly smaller percentage of all applications files, so it won't have THAT drastic an effect on the overall averages (that they have fewer to process is also evident in the quick processing time - right? if they had as many as CSC, they'd probably take just as long. Not like Vermonters run naturally in double-time).

So it would seem that the linked federal register information supports what is reported here and would at least help illustrate the real situation past the USCIS site processing times.

Theoretically might be true if VSC was handling 50% of the cases.... While I don't know the true case load break down, It does not appear to be even 25%. The other question is in the 2.9 months, what is the sample period? Did it include a period still affected by the IMBRA debacle?

According to the document, 2.9 is the processing times (in terms of months) for each application and petition as of September 30, 2006. That covers a period which include the president's backlog elimination mandate. I believe the 2.9 reflects the current processing time now that the backlog has been (mostly) dealt with. So we've gone through and past the IMBRA disaster.

That's my take without re-reading the whole document right now.

And see my prior post to this one for my take on the 2.9 and VSC relationship.

But as I read it, the commitment is to process in 6 mos. or less.... Since they are already meeting this commitment, there does not appear to be much additional incentive to reduce this processing time by possibly adjusting the workload between the two service centers or adding additional adjudicators for this type of petition.....

Nonsense. An average has nothing to do with the 50th percentile. You might want to stop pretending to be such a know-it-all around here. It's kind of tiring; especially when you answer people by questioning their questions.

It is true that the average is roughly 90 days

Well, the processing time is roughly 90 days, however the 50% commentary isn't wholly inaccurate, depending on from which area of mathematics and statistics you draw the term "mean." Frequently, the mean and the median (which would be the truer midpoint where half the remaining data points are above and half below) are going to be the same. Sometimes they are not. Of course, that's a dramatic simplification.

If we're going to get in a math-class pissing match, may as well get into full throttle.

At the end of the day, we're not going to know all the data points, so we should go with the government's reported 2.9 month average processing time and use that as a basis for determining our timelines, know that it is an average and not an absolute.

Yes, you right, I have NO idea if my approval yesterday was the cause of my visit to INFOPASS. I am almost sure that it was a coincidence.

I am not telling everybody to make an appointment with INFOPASS. Like I am not telling everybody to pray god, kill a goat, or burn incense. I am not telling anybody that they “shouldn’t start stressing out until the end of the month” or “just be glad you're in the loop and not starting out. I just sent mine in today.” Then again, if any or all above-mentioned activities make you feel better, by all means knock yourself out.

All I did is share my ideas and observations with the board. I think this is a great place to help each other, exchange experiences, discuss theories, etc. There are people here who spend a lot of time collecting, organizing, and preparing data, researching government publications, etc. I, personally, appreciate all of that, even if I disagree with some of the data and/or ideas. Let’s try to help each other more and criticize less.

I know one thing for sure; the only way to expedite your approval is to move to Vermont.

Good luck everyone!!!
