Which type of visa are Canadian citizens issued when visiting USA through a port of entry (airport)? I understand we are exempt from the visa, but don't they stamp the passport with some kind of visa? i wanna do a medical observership in which they require you to submit your visa status ( which they say b1/2 is fine) in the application, now say I enter the US without such a visa, what is my visa status then? and can I get a b1/2 visa from the port of entry thanks!

Canadians are almost never issued a non-immigrant visa. Generally, Canadians are issued B-2 (tourism) or B-1 (business) status (not a visa) when entering by Air or Sea unless they request an alternate status. (such as TN, F-1 ect) Your passport will be stamped and you can get your I-94 from the DHS website indicating your status.

Generally, Canadians are admitted as N/C (Non-Controlled) if entering by land for tourism/business travel.

You'll likely get a b1/2 stamp entering from an airport

Just started a few years ago with George W. Bush issuing an executive order to close the borders between Canada and the USA. Felt the Canadians weren't doing enough to check on terrorists. Obama never reversed this. But since the beginning of time, had open borders, and my company had many divisions up there.

Now its a nightmare to travel back and forth after a hard days work, have to spend an extra six-seven hours waiting in long lines. Toronto is a key entry point added another million square feet to that airport for security, not really bad entering, Canadians are nice, but living hell coming back.

Ha, with about 3,500 miles of unprotected border, a terrorist would be an idiot to travel by air, guess they didn't think about this.

Terrorist are winning after all.
