Why does NOA1 have the A#???

Had you friend ever applied for any other visa before? Tourist? Work? Anything?

We barely realized my fiance even had one - from when he had applied for/been granted a tourist visa.

Could be that it came up in the system whether you included it or not and gets added onto the NOA1.

I wouldn't sweat it either way - not much you can do about it.

My friend never applied for any visa to the US. before.

If one applies for a tourist visa, he/she will automatically be assigned for an A#???

I myself applied for US visa 4 times (2 J-1s and 2 B-2s), but I was never assigned any A#. I just got my A# from the approval notice for K-1 visa.

So why do some have an A# in their NOA1 and some in their NOA2??? :o

I just want to know why some have an A# on their NOA1. So I can answer my friend and myself. Mine didn't.

What visa forms do you mean?

From what I can remember - my fiance's was on his actual visa, stapled in his passport from a prior visit to the U.S. But I also recall it not being a vital bit of information. I haven't seen any other threads on the topic - certainly not dire ones. So unless something was denied or held up and you know it was because of a missing A#, my advice is not to stress too much.

Paula&Minya,

It means that the Service Centers are not consistent. Nothing more. Vermont used to be very consistent about showing the A# on the Receipt Notice for I-129f petitions, the other service centers used to be equally consistent about not showing it.

As some other posters have written, the A# is the case file number. It is assigned as soon as a case is received and assembled into a file. Often, when people do not put their 1st A# onto subsequent applications a new A# will be given to the new application, and people will wind up with multiple A#s.

During adjustment of status all files for an individual will be merged together, if they haven't been already, and the Green Card will show an A# that is THE A#.

I'm just confused about why some I-129F petition NOA1's have the A# listed, and others don't. Does this mean those that don't are somehow in a different group as far as processing goes? Or is it that those NOA1's that do list this number have been processed more "completely" before the actual NOA was drafted? It just raises a lot of questions in my mind....don't know about anyone else.

This will properly raise more questions than answers. I am a US Citizen by naturalization and still have my Green Card. We were brought here through family sponsorship. Both my parents became US Citizen before I was 18 and claimed me during the naturalization process. They never did take away my Green Card.

NOA1 = No A#

NOA2 = Has A # (For Me And Fiance)

My Green Card Which Is 20+ Years Old Has An A# Which Matches The NOA2's A# For Me. I don't think it's some random numbers or case file. My fiance once applied for a Travel Visa but was denied back in 2005. Does anyone else's fiance has an A# on their NOA2?

Flashfish,

The petition Approval Notice will almost always show the beneficiary's A#.

Not surprising that your A# is shown with your name on the Approval Notice - as a naturalized citizen you have an A# from your past dealings with the INS. That A# identifies your case file, which continues to exist in the archives of USCIS.
