We're hoping to fly my fiance into JFK on March 23rd. And we're reeeeally hoping that they're still doing the temp EADs. Has anyone flown into JFK recently and gotten the temp EAD?

No, he doesn't have something lined up. It's just that a second income would be very helpful, and the poor guy isn't very happy about the idea of sitting in the apartment for a few months while I work. JFK is the closest airport to me with train access so we'd be flying him into JFK with or without the temp EAD being done. We're just curious to know if they stopped doing the temp EAD, or if they're still doing it and we have a chance at getting it.

Ok. As it's your nearest POE, seems like a good plan to me.

Well, I still read reports of people getting the stamp. Might need to ask for it though.

Remember, it's only good for the duration of the I94. If he gets something, he will need to stop working when his I94 expires.

Yup, we know. My approved time off from work for our civil marriage is April 4th - 16th anyway, there's no way he'd get that time off from work with a new job. Across the street from our apartment complex are long chains of stores and office buildings. So we're hoping he'll get the temp EAD and could walk across the street and get a cruddy little job for 2 - 3 weeks... quit it... we get married and file AOS/AP/EAD... April 17th I'll try to talk my boss into giving him a job at my place, if not he could go walking, but whatever the case he could work that last month and a half or whatever it is... then he'd have to quit, and start working again once we get the next EAD. But hey, any extra income is better than no extra income! And he's really struggling with feeling useless right now. It's me that's apartment hunting, it's me that's bringing in the main salary and the medical/dental benefits, etc. So anything to help him feel useful and like he's contributing will be great.

I haven't read about anyone getting the temp EAD in JFK for a while so I wasn't sure if we should hope for it or not? What does it look like? If they don't give it to him should he ask for it, and if so what's it called in immigration-people-language?

There's a link (not a visajourney website) somewhere (and I know I have it on my work computer) on visajourney that shows people still regularly getting the EAD stamp through JFK. I'll post the link here on Monday. But yes, it appears that JFK still does.

It's on the back of I-94 card and He doesn't have to quit his job after the expiration date unless he is asked to.

Filing for AP/ EAD doesn't make sense if you have uncomplicated AOS case from K1 visa.

That's not necessarily true. I've seen several people here with "uncomplicated" cases needing AP and EAD. Best to get it and NOT need it, than need it and not have it.

Hi Angilla, I remember reading about people who got the EAD from JFK recently. I'm planning the same thing you are, for the same reasons (except since I'm near to LAX, JFK will be more inconvenient). There are plenty of cruddy jobs near our apartment which my guy will be happy to do for several weeks – for the income, the feeling of satisfaction from working, and getting used to the American way of doing things. I also agree with bostonparis that it is totally necessary to apply for EAD too – there are stories here about “uncomplicated” cases that got delayed 6 months and more, with no EAD! Better safe than sorry, for sure!

Really?

Another one of your pearls of wisdom?

Looking at our timeline it’s hard to question my wisdom.

Ah, the great view one gets from the misconception of happenstance.

Listen please...and try to put yourself in others shoes. Having an uncomplicated AOS does NOT - I repeat - DOES NOT automatically mean you will have a fast AOS approval. Sheesh, have you even looked at others timelines on here???? Our case is uncomplicated - we were even transferred to CSC - but it's been 8 months now and NO GREEN CARD due to my husband being in name check - which has nothing to do with whether or not your AOS is uncomplicated or not - it's strictly due to the FBI. We don't like it, but there it is. Without the EAD my husband would not be able to work and we need his income.

Please stop handing out such advice. It's misleading and to be quite honest, it's only YOUR opinion based on YOUR experience.

Thanks for the link to the temp EAD picture - I'll show it to my fiance so he knows what to look for! :D I'm glad to hear JFK is still doing them, I really hope he gets it.

No worries guys - the EAD and AP aren't questions in our minds, we're filing for them and that's that. Yeah that's a couple hundred bucks we could really use otherwise but, as was said, we'd rather get them and not need them... than need them and not have them. Decision's already made, when we file for AOS we're filing for EAD and AP too. :)
