Hi there!

I just want to read opinions about a situation.

WHO (World Health Organization) this week announced for the 4th time in the history a worldwide emergency with Zika virus. They asked people from all over the world to avoid to go to Latin America, specially women who are planning to get pregnant...

What about we (I'm including myself in this situation) women who are willing to have a kid after get together to our loved ones, and we are "stucked" in Latin America?

Who will "pay the bill" for possible babies who were born and will be raised in America with a possible microcephalic situation?

What about these families?

How immigration will handle that?

I´LL START TO LIVE BACK AGAIN WHEN I´LL BE ON MY HUBBY´S ARMS, FOREVER AND EVER. UNTIL THERE, I DON´T LIVE. I SURVIVE. (L)

It's being advised against becoming pregnant in these countries. Being in the process of waiting for a visa doesn't change that advise.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

The greatest risk of microcephaly and malformations appears to be associated with a Zika infection happening during the first trimester of pregnancy.

"Zika virus doesn’t stay in the blood for very long, only a matter of days. The CDC says up to seven days. But it doesn’t stay a long time like Ebola or Hepatitis C,” said Daniel Lucey, a infectious disease specialist at Georgetown University. Once the virus clears the body, it shouldn’t be a threat to women who might want to become pregnant."

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

For sure the recomendations don´t change.

But It already happened in Haway a case of a brazilian who gave birth in America a kid with microcephaly.

Reports said that she got the virus in Brazil and went to Haway.

I don´t know about her story (if she immigrated or not), but the point is: what about the women who are wiling to have a baby after the immigration process? If something like this happen?

What do you think about?

What do you mean by "willing to"? The women should wait to get pregnant until after they've safely arrived in a Zika-free country. They shouldn't be "willing to" take the risk of having a severely ill child in my opinion.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Well, there are no studies enough to say that this is a certain thing, even because, this disease is an old disease with a huge recurrence in Africa and this is the first time that something like this is happening.

All the health authorities all over the world are saying different stuff.

I know CDC statements are respected all over the world, but I have no clue how they stated that before scientific studies about the subject. Every virus is a different one and they can react differently.

The risk?

And if someone could prove that the virus is ok after a week, great. But if it will be different?

Why CDC has an overview so simple and WHO is so concerned, once WHO is a worldwide comission and it dictates procedures all over the world?

Unfortunately I see a very bad future for those ones who are in this risk. No one cares. And it can have a huge price in the future. For the families and for the Country too.

Ok, I´ll give you an example (my example):

I live in a Latin country with the biggest recurrency of Zika and I´m waiting my immigration process.

I´m waiting my process get done and I get together with my husband to have a baby.

If my baby born with microcephaly?

I´m willing to have a baby after the process.

So should I give up?

No one knows how this virus works. If it gets a week to don´t make anything to the baby or if it gets forever.

This is the point...

I'm so sorry, but I really don't understand what you mean. What do you propose to give up on? Having a baby? Immigration? If you are worried about having a child in the future (?), I would suggest you consult a physician who is proficient in your native language to learn some facts about the virus.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

And... I´m a doctor!

Even the doctors doesn´t know what to say... There are no scientific statements about this vírus.

I don´t want to risk a situation like this.

You asked how immigration will handle this ... not sure what you mean, handle what exactly ? It is not an immigration issue.

As time goes on more research will be available, here is a CNN article just from today http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/02/health/zika-virus-sexual-contact-texas/index.html

It is a terrible disease and nobody has all the answers but I am hopeful that anyone who wishes to become pregnant in the US can do so.

To be safe, discuss it with an infectious disease doctor and follow CDC guidelines, wait a while to become pregnant if you feel too anxious.

Blood test show the virus remains for about a week but semen test say it stays longer and nobody knows exactly how long it could be sexually

transmitted. The CDC web site has a Q&A section in regards to pregnancy and zika.

Handle their future immigrants from these countries. Once no one knows exactly the time frame that the virus stay active, these immigrants if they get infected, they can give birth in America kids with microcephalic condition.

I wish I could hear an opinion from someone who works or used to work in USCIS about this.

Thank you for joining me at this conversation!

It remains to be seen, frankly I believe immigration will not change in this regard, at most they add it on for the medical, if infected request another blood test

before issuing the visa.
