Hi all -

My husband has a CR-1 Visa. POE December 26, 2015. We are waiting for both his Social Security and Green Card to come in the mail. I paid the ELIS $165 fee before he came to the U.S.

On the DS-260 we checked yes to wanting a social card number. It is my understanding that this is all we had to do and his card should come in the mail. Is this correct? I see some people posting about going to social security offices to apply.

There's a 50/50 chance that the social security card will come in the mail. If it were to come, it would've in the first two weeks. Since it's been more than a month, I suggest you go to the local social security office and apply in person.

For the green card, as of late it's been taking about 45 days to receive it but, if you call USCIS they can possibly provide a tracking number to you.

If the SS card hasn't arrived in the 5 weeks since your POE, go to the nearest office and apply for one; that's what we did. We had also checked the DS260 box, but we learned its a 50-50 chance.
