Filing I-129f while living abroad

Hi everyone. I came to Turkey to visit my fiance and have been here since the beginning of Dec. Separating at the moment would be terrible. Especially since his mother is critically ill and he needs my support. I am trying to get a residence permit so I don't have to leave him. Can we still file the 129f while I am living in Turkey? Do I just send it to the Dallas lockbox? I am 18 and live with my mother, so I do still have an address in the U.S. Thank you.

02/24/16 -- I-129F sent to Lewisville, TX

02/26/16 -- Arrived at Lewisville, TX

03/02/16 -- NOA1 Email and Text. Sent to CSC

06/01/16 -- I-129F RFE

06/13/16 -- RFE Reply

06/20/16 -- I-129F NOA2

07/15/16 -- NVC Received

07/19/16 -- Case number assigned

07/20/16 -- NVC Left

Yes you can! I'm assuming you're the US citizen and your fiance is Turkish. You do not need a residence permit in Turkey to submit the I-129F, but if your fiance was not Turkish, he would need Turkish residency to have his interview there. I also filed my I-129F while living abroad from Germany. Just put your US address as your permanent address and it's no problem! The hard copies of your NOA1 and NOA2 will be sent to your address there.

Thanks so much! We are barely starting the process and getting all the papers and everything together. Should I even mention in the forms that i'm living in Turkey at the moment? Or just always use my U.S address?

I'm pretty sure it only asks for one address for you on the actual form, that will be your US address. You also have to write a cover letter for the application (examples are available on this website), so you can specify in there your mailing address in Turkey. That's what I did and they sent everything to the US address anyway :rolleyes: But don't worry, you don't need those hard copies immediately or anything.

You will need to supply an affidavit of support showing that your current income is sufficient to meet the requirements. If you do not have a current income you will need to obtain a joint sponsor who must submit an affidavit of support in addition to yours and supply all the needed documentation.

Check in the regional forum to learn if Ankara is receptive or not to joint sponsors assuming that you do not have a current and continuing US based income.
