Hello VJers,

hope all is well with everyone,

just wondering, if you have a green card (CR1), and wanted to go to Hong Kong, how do you go about getting a VISA? I've read that other countries don't care about your green card, what they care about is whatever current passport you have and it's VISA applications are based on that specific country's requirements, in this case of course it's Vietnam.

I know in Vietnam, you have to send your passport to the China embassy.

Do you guys know of a process of getting one here? or if anyone has done this before?

thanks!

VISA is a Credit Card so I assume you want a visa.

Go to the Consulate web site and see what they need you do.

A GC can help in obtaining a visa where there may be other issues, and a few countries will give you a pass, Canada and Mexico come to mind.

haha, good one Boiler.

thanks for the tip, so far, the only thing I found is that you have to mail the application to HK -- I was hoping there was a consulate locally here in the U.S. -- I'm going to try calling the travel agent to see if they might know faster way to do it.

thanks

You are correct, traveling to other countries is solely dependent upon what country issued your passport. Having a U.S. Green Card could potentially could help you get an entry visa to another country like the U.K., because it shows you were vetted by the U.S. State Department, but that is not a guarantee in anyway and they will never admit that to you.

Which country issued your passport, which country are you traveling to, and where are you currently located?

Applying as a US permanent resident ought to be easier than just applying from Vietnam as they won't think you are going there with the intention of working illegally.
