Yup, I find it helps if you can get a bottle of the Canadian East Coast style sweet garlic sauce with a US Gyro, and then you're there. If not you can make your own to taste:

I replaced the garlic powder with the garlic puree you can get in the tube... I found it tastes better but you have to adjust the amount.

Haven't ever heard of donairs before, but we have a lot of places and restaurants that make great Gyros around here. I used to get gyros when I lived in Canada too, so any Middle Eastern restaurant will have them...

Donairs are so good! They just opened up a new place in Calgary with them too(my brother and sister live there.) I should clarify - I've had gyros when in larger cities in the US. However, our town of 3000 in the middle of nowhere North Dakota doesn't have any Middle Eastern influence at all...

I haven't logged in for a while and I'm so glad this thread was started! I've been here for over two years and I'm just finally adjusting. I thought it was just me and perhaps I was being a bit petty over stuff. My sister just sent down a care package. PC's Loads of Ketchup, All Dressed, and Creamy Dill Pickle Chips, a bottle of HP sauce, and Creamy Cucumber dressing. Super happy about that!

As for creamy cucumber dressing... try the cucumber ranch... It's pretty much the same thing.

We have salad dressings down here that I love, like green goddess, that I can't get in Canada. :/

I wonder if I'd miss more if I visited more often. I've only been back to Canada once since I left. Guess the NEXUS card was a bit of a waste of time and money. LOL

Lol where do u live?? Thankfully in LA the food is great and healthy!!! Plus I love sushi and Mexican food haha that really helps...if we didn't live in LA we would probably live in Vancouver lol bc I'm not a fan of many states. Haha maybe Portland OR Seattle would be cool...but I would not fit in in the south or midwest:/

If I go back to Canada I can say I would miss avocado!!!! They are not ripe or fresh in canada...and I would miss Mexican food too haha so as much as I miss my iced cap and timbits, their is so much here I would miss if I was in canada...poke too (poke-eh)!! It's authentic Hawaiian marinated ahi tuna (like a sushi salad almost) omg I would be lost without my weekly poke!!!

Ah that is so weird sugar in everything:/ I figured that is a south Carolina thing lolll

When I had gestational diabetes it was awful! I was so glad not to have any major family gatherings then lol!

However diet snack food wise I find it so much better here (ie: weightwatchers snacks, skinny cow, 100 calorie portions).

We have some great fruit stands here in Florida and vegetables available at the local markets (some even take foodstamps! Imagine that!) but it's hit and miss of their availability of produce. I do miss Ontario berries and pei potatoes though.
